Silver 328ci vs 03' SE

Hi all, I raced a BMW 328ci. Man did this guy have an arrogant look on his face. He had an attitude like, does this guy in the maxima think he can challenge a BMW. Anyways, it was a little wet on the ground and when the light turned green he got a jump about half a car length on me, I just kept spinnin' the wheels all the way through 1st and 2nd, cursin the max for not laying the power to the ground, i finally caught up to him in 3rd but had to slow for traffic. I just wished the road was dry and we had more space, man I would have knocked that arrogance off his face. Starting to get annoyed with fwd... but I still love the max.

yeah, you probably should'nt race in wet conditions, but if conditions were right it would have been a good race, once you hit about 70 or so he would give you a lot of trouble

not really...2k2 6sp shouldnt be scared from a 328i above 70...the 2k2 6sp will pull on the BMW all the way.also, racing in wet conditions with a manual can make your tires spin all the time when you shift gears

the 2002 maxima in a straight line would own any 3 series, other then a M3. It is lighter, and it puts down more power. It just so happens the bimmer comes with much better tires and can launch much better. That aside, the maxima should have no problems.

Yeah a civic wanted to race me yesterday night in the rain, i got a jump on him and shut it down at 40 as it was raining and i have clone-blowtenzas. (Toyo Proxes )

I hate it when people who have expensive brands (lexus, bmw, mb, etc.) think you don't stand a chance because you have a nissan. At least you showed him what you've got!

Yeah guys I know, these expensive car owners think the more money they spend---> the more bragging rights they have. I was like buddy, your car is nice and yes it's a BMW, but wipe that arrogance and smirk off your face.

BMW guy: I have a BMW
Maxima guy: Yeah, BMW guy, you have a BMW, you are a GOD
BMW guy: Yeah, he he!
Maxima guy: How much power does your bimmer have?
BMW guy: About 200hp
Maxima guy: That's nice. Did you know Maximas have 255hp
BMW guy: A Maxima with 255hp? ?!?!$%?
Maxima guy: Don't you think I would smoke you after I hook up
BMW guy: You can't beat me, I drive a BMW
Maxima guy: (in my mind) Another BMW guy blinded by the brand

Well, I am not the one to rag on you for racing in the rain or even a damp road, because I've done it.

I spun the wheels in every gear thru 4th. I just couldn't get the traction. It was fun though:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ed+by+a+Solara

But don't post in there, just read it. Don't wanna bring back all that No, no, no talk.

Oh yeah, and I've owned a 330 convertible on dry pavement. (wasn't even close)

Yeah the traction sucks. There is just too much torque for the front wheels, even in the dry at times. What a ya gonna do? What bugged me the most was the look of superiority on his face. I wish I had my Stealth at the time.

Yeah, if you read my thread, I felt the same. Now there's a guy out there in a Solara that thinks...well, you know the rest.

It's okay. You know, I know, Max drivers, we all know.

I own a 2k3 6 speed Maxima, and would give it up in a heart beat for a 330ci...but not a 328ci...

but he should have outran the guy in dry weather...straight line..but in the corners, even the softest bmw will destroy a Maxima..

Believe it or not, but some BMW guys don't even acknowledge other BMW drivers. Just like you said, many of them are blinded by their arrogance and ignorance. Only because of people like that other bmw drivers (myself, for example ) get a bad name.

I dont' know about you guys, but most people who drive 3-series in around by me are women, young and old, and older gentlemen than really didn't buy the beemer for anything other than the name. They wouldn't know what a 1/4-mile time was from a 0-60 time, and I get no such dirty looks or smirks.

I don't see a point of buying a 3-series for the name. Here in Boston, people who have money and want the name wouldn't buy anything below 5-series. Younger crowd buys 3-series for performance, style and huge aftermarket support but not the name.

My sentiments exactly!! If it's not a 540, M5, 7-series or X5 V8 then don't bother.

I'd get a 540i 6sp over the 328ci (or 330ci) ANYTIME!! Swapping my 2K2 for a 3-series is nothing but several trade-offs. But, trading up for a 540i is CLEARLY a step up.

Peace

isn't the 5 series still a little smaller than a Maxima? overall length is a couple inches shorter...isn't it?

not to say I wouldn't give my Maxima up for a 540i 6 spped, or even a 530...but the Maxima is bigger...i think

VQMAN, i gave up my maxima with all it's mods for my 03 330Ci and it was the best thing i ever did. Anyone around with a 00,01,02,03 maxima want to run my stock BMW, that's cool. MJP, i guess you never raced a 3 series before.

Who cares which car is faster? I never understood what stands behind that. If I have a BMW which is a little slower than a 2k2 maxima, does that mean my car is not worth it? Speed isn't everything and frankly, I don't even care how much faster 2k2 max than my 330ci.
There's more to a car than speed. If I wanted to have a fast straight line acceleration, I would've gone with a cobra or a vette.
That's why I have no regrets switching from 97 Maxima to 330ci.

There is no 328i, ci, 330i, ci that can take on a 2K2-3 Max. Do your homework, then bother to come back to the org and kindly retract your flames. People in the income brackets buying 3-5 or 7 series are nowehere as concerned with 0-60 as one might want to think. They are not typically pimply teenagers that want to race. I hace smoked more tha one three series with no problem. I, myself with my Max don't often find myself racing as often as when I was younger. BMW's, or MB owners are more interested in luxury and panache from a luxury brand than we are. Thoswe that are interested in somthing fast typically buy a Porsche 911 or a Corvette for speed purposes. The Max is still a great bang for the buck and for now fill most of out needs. Now, the almighty G35 Coupe is a different story. The 04' 3 series will give the G35 Coupe and other competitors a run for their money, 0-60 is expected to be under six seconds.

I don't understand. First of all, I don't think I flamed anyone here, just stated my opinion. Personally, I didn't buy my car for racing purposes, that's what I was trying to explain in my previous post. I never said my 330ci can outrun a 2k2 max, in fact I said that I don't really care who outruns who.

My bad, not meant to flame you in the least. I've read your posts and you seem to be the type that bought the car because you wanted the car, not the label. I'm just stating that based on numbers, one can not outrun the other one. That takes nothing away from your 330CI.
