HID H3 OEM Foglight Conversion Writeup

Okay...I have put together a writeup for a HID foglight conversion for a 2000+ Maxima using the factory OEM housing.

This writeup is based on the Phillips H3 4100k HID Conversion Kit. Other kits may be adapted very easily. Be sure to check the aiming on the fogs before taking it on the road.

5800k...6000k...8000k, my first night out literally overshadowed all other cars equiped with HID's out there. The glare from the fogs were minimal but don't flame me on the ethics of blinding other drivers, etc etc etc. Go and bark at those SUV with lights shining literally through your rear window. Other than that, have fun and let me know how it turns out for you!

Post pictures of your car's output!

The writeup is hosted at Http://66.125.192.138/images/h3.pdf

Nice write up, but I drilled a much smaller hole, cut the wires and was able to put both wires through. Small dab of silcone sealer, and I was done. I have Eaglite H3 5200K kit.

Catz also makes a H3 fog kit which has a smaller bulb than a regular H3 application. Perhaps all the dremeling is not needed w/ that kit?

I have the KOPS H3 6000K Hid kit in my fogs and there was no dremeling required.

Hmm, maybe it was just for the kit that he used.

Is the KOPS 35W or 21W?

Also looks like from the site that the (-) ground plugs directly into the OEM harness? That could be bad as the ground there is not a "good" ground....

Could you send me a pic of the KOPS HID kit? I would be interested in other install options for future upgrades.

As far as the grounding is concerned...from my understanding, the relay has a separate low and high current circuit. The HIDs are powered using the high current path where as the low current is used to activate or deactivate the relay. the OEM harness is not taxed at all.

Check out his homepage, he's got some pics up.

juice: Does the 6000k HID kit replace the stock HIDs? How much better are they?

Wrong. Aint no HID bulb that runs in the 3000 range. The lowest color on an HID was the first ones and stock ones that come in cars and they are 4200k.

sorry Maximaman.. I read that wrong and thought you were referring to halogen. It's late

Now that I have re-read your post, stock HID is 4300K.

Thanks for catching that bigdog

Thanks guys.

Are most of you replacing the stock HID bulbs. Most of the kits I see are much higher (6-8k) then you will have a matching problem again.
I just don't wanna get the wrong kit or spend more than I have too.

Is this writeup even available anymore? He link in the sticky takes you to an incorrect link. Plus, the link in this thread is dead. I'm trying to get my new headlights back in, but I want to put his HID kit in for my fogs first.

Update: Looks like i can use this. http://forums.maxima.org/infiniti-i3...on-sticky.html

I checked that one out too. The 01 (or at least mine) is different. I have the same positive wire terminal. However, the ground wire is grounded on the screw that holds the bracket that keeps the bulb in place.
