Perhaps you should also ask whether the people who had their MAF's blown were w/the aftermarket intake or OEM? This is a BIG concern for me since I've recently ordered the aftermarket intake and DO NOT want to be hassel w/the dealer, period! Thanks.

I don’t understand why so many people have problems with this MAF thing:

The MAF on our cars is a heated electro that constantly monitors temperature. It does this by sense the amount of air that cools the unit. If you put on an aftermarket unit that does not provide enough protection against the elements, it will damage your MAF. Likewise, if you put on an overly oiled aftermarket filter, it too will damage your MAF as well.

The stock airbox is designed to only allow air to pass through the sensor.

5000 miles with a K&N panel filter.

Someone had done a poll like that a few months ago and it seemed to be more of the MAF failures had some type of intake but there were also some who were stock. (Since many who read this forum have intakes in general that could effect the results)

Keep on voting! so far it looks like the miles are spread all over the place, but I am surprised at the greater % below 20,000. However, I have always read that if you have a bad electical component they will fail early when in use.

The thing I don't understand is -- if it was only happening to people with aftermarket intakes I doubt Nissan would have issued a TSB about it.

You are right. I was considering just getting a new one now and replaced the original just to prevent a problem.

The question is, did Nissan make the replacment any better?? Is there an aftermarket MAF that we can use instead of the one from Nissan???

Nissan has changed the MAF from the original that was stock .. at least in the 2000's. The Infiniti service manager told me that they had a "superceded" part that had a new part number. I posted it in my original MAF thread in 5th gen.

I haven't taken apart the MAF yet...is the part number easily spotted? I'd like to identify if I have the original part or the "superceded" part. I might be inclined to just replace the sucker now rather than get nailed with a failure halfway to Vancouver or something like that.

The Nissan Max part number for the new one is 22680-2y001, and I know Courtesy Nissan has them is stock (I asked them last week) for 89.00.

I suspect this will work in the 2000 I30, correct?

MaineI30, do you know if the Infinti part number is the same as the Nissan Max?

My Max is at 45K now and I've yet to replace the MAF.

My reply to you was not as a moderator just as a member. I for one am tired of hearing people say "I don't have that problem" when the post is just asking a question to people "who have that problem". If you don't have that problem just don't reply, no one wants to hear you. 99% of people do not have the problem, WE KNOW THIS!

A great example of this is when someone posts "how much do you owe/pay on your car"? And every once in a while someone comes in with a big grin saying "it's paid off ". Well hey thats great but did we ask you, do we care? NO. We just want to know how much you owe.

Now let's take a second here and pretend everyone was like you.. Everytime someone had a technical question asking people a question like "when did your problem first occur", that post would be hijacked by everyone and there brother saying "I don't have that problem". You see the problem here? If everyone was like you every post would be filed up with "I don't have that problem" posts. Just amagine that for a minute and then hopefully you will understand where I'm comming form here.

I have had 3 MAFS break in the last 3 weeks.. Since I instaled a apexi filter the MAFS's have only lasted a matter of minutes. Back to stock for now, I can't take this crap anymore..
