0-60 Question

he following quote is in a preview test of teh 2k Max in C&D...The last sentence kindof leaves a little bit of intrigue so I started searching for quicked tests..The quickest 5spd max I found reviewed was at 6.9 sec 0-60...does this make any sense considering the 4th gen car pulled a 6.7 and the power to weight ratio is better in the 5th gen????

...at the track, our early-build test car trailed the old Maxima by a smidge. Its 0-to-60-mph and quarter-mile performance, at 7.0 and 15.6 seconds, respectively, were each 0.3 second off the pace of the last SE five-speed we tested (C/D, January 1996). The new car weighs 175 pounds more, and yet its power-to-weight ratio shows an 11-percent improvement, with virtually no change in gearing, so we expect future examples to improve on that performance.

lesson is never to magazine race...one example - edmunds got 6.3 second to sixty for the 6 speed max - there are several autos (g-tech estimated) that are getting that time. real world, given a good driver, an auto would never keep up with a stick.

An auto MAXIMA would'nt keep up with an stick MAXIMA. There's an ample supply of car models whose auto and stick have the same 1/4 mile times.

the HORSEpower to weight ratio is better in the 5th gen...

but I think with 205TQ in the 4th Gen and 217TQ in the 5th, that the TQ to weight ratio is better in the 4th...

just a theory though

But if you have to, use the same magazine like ojman did. At least the testing methods(and perhaps even drivers) will be the same.

You can't go comparing Motor Trend's 6k rpm clutch dropping starts to the granny-shifting methods of Consumer Reports. I think CR is the only magazine to get a near 7-sec 0-60mph for the WRX. Why do they even bother?

motor trend is the best of the worst when it comes to 0-60 times.

I have usually found MT to be a little slower than C&D...I guess I haven't compared alot though..just cars I am really interested in. What are the best times ppl are getting with a stock 2k-2k1 max 5spd with a G-tech?

Not sure about G-tech times, but I think number of people on this board ran high 14s 1/4 stock in 2000-2001 5-speed Max.

something else to be taken into consideration is that the 5th gen's have higher peak hp, while the rest of the torque and hp curves are pretty much similar.
for the extra power past 5000 rpm, i think it is compensated by the additional weight of the 5th gens.
in the 1/4 mile, i think the 4th gen has the slightest edge, as opposed to the 5th gen vq30.
