looking for an 02 or '03 SE

I am in the market for an 02' or 03' max se. Nissan was offering a $1000 cash back on a new purchase thru Jan 6. Does anybody know if they will extend this? What can I expect to pay for low milage '02 from a dealer? Should I look at private sellers? I have never bought a used car so I really am a bit scared of getting a lemon. Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Does the FULL factory warrenty transfer over is bought second hand?

Well im not too knowledgable in this category (or any for that matter) but from a dealer, i'd think around 22-23, depending on where you live, what options you get, milage, etc... Check out www.kbb.com , or also you can check out www.edmunds.com . Good luck. Also, to get a good price on the 02-03, just wait a few months till the 04 comes out. Prices will drop.

A low mileage 2k2 should be below $20k (depending on options, of course); you can buy a brand-new 2k3 SE for around $23k or less (again, dependent on options)

Do your homework and have any used car you are thinking of buying checked out by a mechanic. Yes the full warranty transfers to you as the new owner.

Good luck.

Nissan is always having deals like this, especially when there is a "year-end" clearance (when the 04's come in)... That's when I picked mine up... when they had a ton of 03's on the lot and they needed to make room. They offered me 3.9% APR or $1,000 cash back, and I took the 3.9 because that would have saved me a little more money over the years (financing) than $1,000 would have.

As for buying a lemon, any respectable dealer... big or small, should provide you with a www.carfax.com Car Fax report upon request. Make sure you ask for it, I used it when I was helping my step dad buy a used truck from a small dealer.

It's up to you, do your homework, and it will pay off. www.edmunds.com www.kbb.com www.carfax.com are all excellent resources.

Remember to save some money for modding too!

Great ideas. Remember that Carfax is unlikely to pick up accidents that don't cause a salvadge title. Two cars I checked were clean on Carfax and both had been in pretty good sized wrecks.

Really? The car faxes I got (for the truck) had all service maintence updates, factory recalls that were fixed etc... no car accidents though, so I don't know if it was in one. I think now they have to update it no matter what because of all the strict lemon laws now..

If you read a Carfax report it says that not all states report accidents. That is why they guarantee the title to be clean not that the report will catch every incident. There could also be time lags before the record shows up. The key is that, just because there is no reported history of a problem, you cannot be sure.

I just got a 03 SE. I'd suggest you go buy new. I got both the $1000 and 2.9% financing for 60 months. You can't beat that. If your looking for a used car, your better off going back 2-3 years rather than just looking at 02. IMHO, you won't save enough to justify buying used for an 02 (might as well just buy an 03).

We just bought an 03 Glacier-loaded( we love it) hard to find and a 350Z( we love it) at the same time. I got the 2.9% financing but I didnt get 1000 cash back also on the Max. If you are in the market to buy get an 03(full warranty) supplies are Dwindling with the colors and options you might want. Alot of dealers might not be giving 03's away this time because they are keeping inventory levels to a minimum this time around, many dealers in the DFW area have on hand only 10-12 at a time.

Thanks PIKAPP22!

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you wind up getting your Max for?
