Just removed wind deflector

This stupid thing has etched thru the clear coat and into the paint. There is even a spot that has worn down to the metal a little. I've read some threads that talk about the little white line that is hard to get off...Well that's because that line is actually a scratch in the surface.

If it looks like this after 1 year imagine what 4 or 5 years will do.
Mine's gone. When my replacement comes in I'll sell the *$#*&^ thing.

Re: Just removed wind deflector

I had the same damage and only had it on for about 4-5 months. Like you, I actually have spots where it looks like a paint chip. I think I'm going to put it back on, but try to see if there is something I can put between the shield and the metal that is a little nicer to paint then there rubber medium.

you should always check to see if its loose, if it is, it will wear into the paint alot faster. Also, its always a good idea to remove it while waxing. wont completely protect it, but will help with that excessive wear. I have the lines too, I just clean under it and reinstall. But after 3 years, it hasnt gotten much worse.

Since you guys brought up the topic about wind deflectors. Have any of you seen a build up of what looks like white mold? After I washed my car the other day. I noticed a bunch of white and a little greenish spots on the rubber part of the deflector. I have tried scrubing it out with a towel but it does not go away. The only way I can get the build up of mold (or whatever it is) is by putting some Maguiar's vinyl cleaner on a towel and rubbing it agains the rubber. It does not get rid of it, but it hides it from being visible. Unless you look at the deflector really close.

Anyone got any suggestions on getting rid of the stuff. I'll post pics on Sunday or Monday so you guys can see what I'm talking about. I've never seen it or had it happen to me. By the way I drive a 2K1 SE.

RF951 can you post some pics of what has become with the wind deflector off. I'd like to see what you guys are talking about. I also have a wind deflector on my 2K3. Although my car is 4 months old. I sure hope it doesn't look like what you guys described if i ever decided to take it off.

I knew it would happen. That is why I took mine off the day I got the car home. I could see all the junk under it just from the dealers washing it, I knew it would be a pain. I think the car looks better without it anyways. I can't believe the dealer considers that an add-on.

I guarantee you have a mark of some kind by now. I removed my deflector when I had under 300 miles on the car and there's a mark on the paint already. It appears to be only in the clear and it can be buffed out so I'm not too worried. I thought I'd have nothing on the car if I removed it so promptly - WRONG!

Unfortunately it's about 20 degrees here in the Chicago burbs so I won't be able to do anything about it until Spring (no garage).

Damn! I should of never had the wind-deflector installed when i bought the car. Oh, well. I guess I'll be removing it once it gets warm outside. I've would never got one if I knew that would happen with one installed.

Yes, the deflector does a great job of deflecting wind and trapping dirt. I took mine off and I was able to clean most of the residue off the car. I MAY put it back on, but I like how the car looks without the deflector, despite the markings on the roof.
Was anyone able to remove the 'tape' without damaging the paint. I am refering to the tape that is placed under the hooks that the deflector is screwed in to. The tape is painted body color, but it is wrinkled and therefor obvious

You all should have bout an AM one...

I got one that was half the price of the Nissan one and looks the same. Is held on my 3m double sided tape. Have had on for over 8 months no problems no scratches. I love the thing personally.

I thought the tape was transparent - but I haven't tried to remove it yet. That will wait until it warms up around here.

Since my car is a lease I might just leave the tape on so when I put the deflector back on I won't have to worry about anything.
