Need your help org

Hey guys. I have been on the boards since Sept. and love all the advice and my Max. I bought the car with 15k miles on it and now have about 22k. The brakes are squeaking like crazy. Could the brakes be going bad already? The vehicle was certified through the dealership. Shouldn't they be responsible for making sure the pads had plenty of life left in them when the vehicle was inspected? Should I take the car into the dealership? Or should I just take the car in somewhere else to get this done? I'm not mechanically inclined so I need to get this done ASAP, but I feel that the dealership should have replaced the pads if they were that worn already. What should I do? Thanks for the help.

Your car is still under warranty regardless if it was certified. Take it to the dealership and they should fix it. They might try to drop the "wear and tear" line on you, but they SHOULD fix it.

Hmmmm...unless there's something mechanically wrong with the brakes, I don't see how they'll fix it (unfortunately). If it's the brake pads, then they are considered wear and tear items, so the warranty does not cover such items (just like clutches).

However, if they find something wrong with the brake assembly, that's an entirely different issue, and that SHOULD be fixed.

You should definitely try to get the dealership to fix it anyway (even if it's the worn out pads) cause you won't lose anything, but they may not do it.

Let us know what happens.

I had/have the same problem. And I have Axxis Metal Master brake pads too. The squeaking goes away when I rinse out the brake dust with water. Then after a day in LA traffic it's back again. I just had the pads replaced a few months ago so I can't be worn out. I can't wait until I replace the rotors with some better aftermarket ones.

Did you break in the pads before driving them hard? You might have glazed them over...overheated them before break-in.

The car already had 15k miles on it. I assumed the car had the 21pt. check or whatever and that I wouldn't have to worry about this already! I went to get my oilchanged the other day and the guy said my brake fluid was extremely low and that my front or rears were probably worn down. My question is, shouldn't the dealership be responsible since I bought the car with 15k and now have 22k with this problem? Lets say they checked the pads before selling and they had half-life. There is no way I beat on them to the point that they are shot already!

What exeactly do they inspect? It could be stuff like cup holders and lug nuts for all we know so we can't really answer your question.

Does the "21 pt inspection" guarantee the items they inspect? For how many miles? Does that include wear and tear items?

Is the squeaking the warning tab hitting the rotor or are the pads still OK and just got noisey?

Front brakes can get worn in as little as 12k. Say you got 'em with 60% of the material still there, you could have gotten them down to the wear indicator in 6k.
