Re: It's only a Maxima !!

i strongly agree with your arguement. people always
try to shut me down with their sports cars, thats
when i down shift into 3rd on the highway and the only
thing that they can see is my license plate disappearing.

Well here in Chi Town my max is a dog compared to half these cars on the street. I personally wish I would have bought a different car. Something a bit lighter with tons more power. The car goes and with the few bolt ons I have I think the car is respectable. But here in Chicago they aren't playing around. The max takes a loss 2 to 3 times a week and I feel like building a true hot rod to tame my hurting internals. As of the last few years if you aren't rolling 350 to 400 hp then your losing on a regular basis.

Fact is, max's get no respect here, they are classified as family sedans and grocery getters. It sucks but I get my A S S handed to me on a regular basis and it isn't even funny.

How fast do you want to go? The answer is, how much money do you want to spend?

Perhaps the answer is to trade your Max for a Mustang GT and get an SVO catalog of performance goodies. Then shell out even more for insurance.

Do I need to go into details here??

b) More expensive to insure
Even for someone of my age, a Z28 SS or WS-6 is not going to be a cheap vehicle to insure by any stretch of the imagination.

c) Less reliable for everyday use
In recent years, I have read threads on how CL/TL trannys have bit the dust, M3 engines failing, '03 Cobras halting production due to quality issues. Then let's not forget GM's "benchmark" of quality in recent years.

d) Less of a balance than the Max is
Try cramming your friends in the back seat of a Camaro, Mustang, or Firebird and watch them look at you as if you are subjecting them to a Chinese Water Torture. True you are going to have *****, but ***** without finesse means nothing.

I am on my second Maxima and I enjoy it. I had a '94 GXE before my '02 SE and I have personally never had a more well-rounded and reliable vehicle. My '02 currently has 35,000+ miles on it and it's still running strong.
You summed it up better than I did.

It's not a matter of how fast do I want to go, I don't consider a street driven car something that tops out at ungodly MPH.. Zero to 60 needs to be incredible to impress me. A mustang can be made to make the power but you will never get it to the ground. Unless you want to roll around town on a 400.00 set of slicks and replace them every 3 weeks. Rolling races are not much fun but the mustang looks the best doing it. A true test to a cars ability is not a roll on run, it's a dead stop run that shows what a car is made of and I feel the Max will never be the monster I would like her to be. Most would say get a supercharger / turbo. Factor in the time invested wrenching, and money spent and your in a very nice high dollar car that has that charger or turbo stock. With minimal upgrades you can fly.

I feel I made a mistake with the MAX that's all. She's a nice car don't get me wrong. Reliable, good looking, comfortable, but needs more umfff.

but at the end of the day you have to realize that it's still a "family" sedan. It's not a sport cars. It's hard to find a four door car as big and comfortable with that much hp under the hood with manual transmission. I understand the more "umff" statement, but I think your comparing the sedan to a whole different bag of goodies.

They told him the same thing "it's only a maxima" Maxima is a hella nice car than those Accords or TLs or whatever, why people always look down on us. They think Accord, TL, or IS300 are nice cars...they disagree that Maxima is a good car, a powerful car. They also think Maxima look dumb and old. I just want to say I love my maxima, i know all of us do. I just want to say I hate those people....

it's only a Maxima...seriously...

I love it when people put down my Maxima. It just shows that they know nothing about the car or what it's capable of. Yet another person to underestimate their opponent.

I makes victory so much the sweeter when they lose

The fact that everybody underestimates the Maxima is one of the things I love about it. It's a great sleeper.

All 5th gens can take these Lex-i.
Good for you bub

If acceleration were everything, we'd all buy 20k Z28 Cameros. Maybe you get the "it's on a Maxima" look or comment cause you act pompous and egotistical with your car? Maybe you park in 2 spaces. Yell at people who eat in your car? etc etc

Most people really know nothing about cars. They see "NISSAN" and that is all. Even if you paid 28k for your Nissan.

Maybe not everyone can afford a Lex, but we keep up what we have. Hmm, maybe we should all go over to a Cavalier board and laugh at them caring about their cars.

I was going to start a new thread but adding to this one seems more fitting.

What's being said is true: the general public wouldn't appreciate the qualities of our cars; but an enthusiast would. My manager owns a '02 BMW 540i. Today I let him drive my '03 SE when we went to pick up lunch. He always like the MAX and knew the '02 & up had 255hp but never drove one. After sitting in the driver's seat and complimenting the layout, he stomped on the gas and was ASTOUNDED by the power and refinement. He said it was just a hair shy of his own car - keep in mind his 540 is more than x2+ the amount we paid for ours. When we got back he asked me for my salesman's number as he is looking to replace his wife's '95 3-series.

I can't think of a more flattering compliment.

2000 or 2001 or 2002, if i can afford maxima
vs
2000 Se bonneville or 2000 ssei supercharged
what should i buy

i own 94 maxima love it
if it wasnt for the problems with it, i'd never trade the maxima

only thing scares me is the american auto and its nonstop problems.
only thing that holds me back from buying a 2002 max with 255 horses is the price.

but i dont want to settle for 222hp with 2000 or 2001
what do you rec?

help me! i've lost sleep in the past 2 nights over this
debating, thinking
looking
i test drove the bonneville, it felt great, i know its going to feel good for a year then it'll be worthless in a shop, but it looks so good...
i test drove a 99 maxima, i didnt like it , i liked my 3rd generation 94 better
