help, automatic trasm problem!!!!

well....i have a maxima automatic trans....and i dont know what happen with my car.

im driving on D at 60 miles per hour ok? and then i shift to 2 gear....the engine wait 7 seconds to shift and make the engine brake(compression) meanwhile the rpms goes down 1000rpms

i tried to do the same at 80mph................i shift to 2 gear...and the rmps goes down.....(like my car was in N) and after 7 seconds...the 2nd gear appears.

i dont know why the gear wait too long to enter...before suppose to do inmedialty....i was scared cause i tried to brake with the stop pedal and engine compression...but i saw the rpms goes down and didnt make the engine shift to 2 gear...i brake just with the brake pedal.

Re: help, automatic trasm problem!!!!

Three questions.

1.) Why on earth would you want to shift from 4th to 2nd (nevermind the assumption of being IN OD)?

2.) The term "you are killing your car" comes into account here. Other mechanical details set aside, the tranny alone is taking a beating.

3.) Where did you learn to punctuate/type in english?

Sorry if this is rude, but your question is pretty ridiculous. I used to treat my rentals like that when I was 18.

Let me add a more intelligent/less sarcastic response here too : your car is probably trying to save its own life. It wasn't meant to do what you're telling it to do (namely being forced to shift into SECOND at speeds of 60-80mph+ - read your ******* manual, most include details indicating how you should treat your AUTOMATIC in the lower gears, and until what speeds they can safely run).

Second at 80mph? I still can't believe anyone would even TRY. Give me your VIN number, I'll call Nissan USA and void your warranty for you.

If your mother bought you a nitrous kit for your birthday, would you race a 100-shot in reverse gear too?

oh man....do this...LEAVE your car in second, and then see how fast it'll go in that gear...that should tell you that you shouldn't be downshifting into second at 80.

I don't even think the computer allows you to downshift into "2" above 70mph...

Second gear should last until 78mph. That "might" be why it took the computer so long to downshift into "2", it just waited for a safer speed to do the command.

ooo.. i like this one. hehe... first of all, i dunno why you would even downshift to 2. you treating it like its a manaul car. our maximas are not speed racers. they are sedans. treat her well and you will get your reward. thats all i have to say for this topic.

I just saw a program on the discovery channel about the meanest ants on earth. They are called the "Siafus" in Tanzania, Africa. I think this guy just opened a can of them.
downshifting from 80 to 2 in an auto Man, what the hell is wrong with you? (say it like Chris Tucker in "FRIDAY')

Yep, the maxima is smarter than this guy gives ti credit for. The Car is NOT giving him second for a reason. Even though moving the auto shifter is a mechanical thing its NOT PHYSICALY moving the tranny into 2nd. Thats done by the tranny computer. That car knows right from wrong. If you were going 5mph and put it in park, the wheels would probably lock up, umong other sounds. BUT if you were going 55mph and put it in park, it would just idle/go into N/go into fail safe type thing.

PS-just because I gave you an example...DON'T try this at home!

This is a joke right?
I mean you understand the concept of an automatic transmission.
When you're driving along and reach 60mph, you...
...leave it in Drive.
When you reach 80mph, you...
... leave it in Drive.
Your car changes gears for you!

Brake job: $300
Tranny job: $3,000

Getting flamed after asking a dumb question: Priceless

p.s. Let's see, which of the two prices would you prefer?

i once wondered what would happened if i were to try that.

but i have the common sense not to actually try just anything i think of.

that may be one for the next rental.

GOOD LORD!!!

Someone should report this guy to the DMV and have his license rebuked. He's gonna be goin down the freeway and blow out his engine and kill a family. I honestly hope to God that this is some stupid joke, but if this guy is serious, somebody needs to steal his Maxima and replace it with a Geo Metro.
