Problems accelerating, codes?

I just bought a used 2000 5-sp Max with 68k miles on it. It has one strange problem... when accelerating it does fine until it hits 3,500 RPM, then basically hiccups/stalls and is very reluctant to rev higher within the RPM range.... Anyone has had any similar problems? Ideas where to look?

I was going to check whether there were any diagnostic codes but the set-up seems different from the 4th gen Maxes even though my Haynes Manual tells me that's not the case. Can someone tell me how I extract the codes?

Thanks much for any help you can offer!

You a Service Engine Soon light or anything? If not you'd probably won't be able to pull any codes down. Did you tune up the car yet?

No, nothing is on, it runs fine, gets good gas mileage otherwise. Air filter is new, spark plugs decent, fuel filter I'll replace soon but I doubt it's that. No pinging as far as I can tell.

Since there is so much electronic "junk" on the car I figured it can't hurt to check the codes. My 1995 never showed anything and then I pulled the codes, which told me that the TPS was on the fritz. It did have a little bit of a hesitation throughout, that's why I checked....

Try to swap out your Mass Air Flow sensor with another Maxima and see what happens. I had some hesitation and my car was running lean... I swapped the MAF from a Sentra 2.5 LE and my car got its ***** back. I have since replaced my MAF and the car runs like it never has before... I think my MAF was bad right off the production line. I am scratching the tires like a **** going into 2nd gear now... And this is with 18" and relatively new tires

BTW.. My car didn't throw any codes either...

Thanks for your info. I'll try this but I'd still like to find out how to extract the codes in the first place.... Anyone know how to do this?
