GXE Upgrades

How hard is it to install Fog Lights on a 2000 GXE? What would you have to buy? How much?

If your car didn't come with keyless remote, can it be installed? How much?

Can the door handles be changed easily?

What other difference are there other than suspension and white gauges that seperate the GXE from the SE?

Thanks.

Suspension isn't that different from the GXE and SE, I doubt many SE users will claim that their stock suspension is 'sport tuned.' Fog lights and the new turn signal stock is $144 I think from DaveB. I'm not sure how much the door handles are, but it would probably be cheaper to get your painted. I'm pretty sure that all 5th gens have remotes, maybe you didn't receive them, but I believe they all have them.

The 2k-2k1 SE suspension is much tighter stock than any other maxima from 2k til now.

Take it from me, the GXE to SE master

I changed out my tails (Easy, you can do it from the trunk), added a spoiler (had the dealer do that), de-badged, then rebadged my car (Debadge with dental floss, and then just stick on the new one like a sticker), I also added foglights (simple, has instructions, and if not, RussMaxManiac has a write up on them too), and changed out my cluster (also simple, just pull the plastic bezel surrounding the bezel, then pull out the cluster, it's held in by a few screws). I also got my hands on a set of 17" SE alloys, to complete the look. Sway bar and strut bar help out the suspension a lot too, and soon enough, I'll change out the springs and shocks...then it won't really matter if it's an SE or GXE, save for the interior upgrades in the SE. As for the handles, well, I like the chrome handles, it makes me a tad different. Good luck with yours.

Thanks

Thanks for all the info guys. The reason I am asking is I am looking at a 2000 GXE with 25K miles. I really want fogs so I thought I'd find out how much it cost to do it. It doesn't have a spoiler, but the dealer said he would get one put on for $250 if I wanted one. The only things left are door handles and suspension. I didn't ask about suspension because I know everyone would tell me to change to Eibach or something like that. It does have alloys, but I prefer the 5 stars so eventually I'll have to find those.

Thanks again.

Write Up

Where can I find the write up by RussMaxManiac? Also, what is different about the taillights and badge?

The SE Tail lights for 00 and 01s are black, while the GXE tails are red.

The SE has an SE badge on the right side of the trunk lid, while the GXE has none

GXE to SE

The SEs also have a dark chrome "Maxima" badge on the trunk (~$20)
I chose to put on on my door.

And isnt there a different ECU? Something about a speed limiter or something?

just know that no matter how many mods you put on your car, how how you gona try to make it look like an SE, it will still be a GXE..The VIN number will tell all.

I don't the speed limiter kicks in until 140 or so, or at least that's when mine does. Also, I just realized that Russ' site is down, so his writeup on foglights is gone. The kit comes with instructions - the wiring is already there, taped up under the splash gaurd, so it shouldn't be too difficult. Also, what dealership said they could give you a spoiler for $250? That's a pretty good price to include install...I paid $400 for mine installed, and that was after bargaining.

Also, the 5 star spokes you speak of are 16"...the 6-spoke ones are the 17" ones and look a lot better on the max, but that's my own opinion (and obviously, from my sig, I'm biased.)

Re: Thanks

How much are you looking to spend?
I might be interested in selling mine. I got leather, fogs, 18" Volks 3pc, the works.

the foglight install shouldnt take anymore than 30-45 minutes. as for other modifications swapping out the tails is really EASY. i also installed the SE gauges (1st GXE to do the swap i think) really easy as Wasim can tell u. as for the door handles it would probably be easier to get them painted though im kinda of fond of the chrome look. well good luck man

one more thing, and this may not bother you but it would sure bother me. the right hand stalk for the wiper control is just a plastic stick. looks and feels different from the full sized round stalk on the left.

sorry dude.

unless it's different for 2k and 2k1 gxes, the wiper stalk is shaped differently. the se and gle stalks are full size and round with a rotating bezel for wiper timing.

GXEs with C&C package also have the full wiper stalk w/o intermittent controls.

GXE Grill

Something else I noticed too...the GXE's have a chrome trim around the grill...not too noticeable but it's there. The SE's are just all black with no chrome trim. But like the door handles, I like that too.

No one has done this upgrade yet, huh? It really shouldnt be that hard.... everything else in the Max is prewired.

Oh, and the fogs are easier to install than replacing your headlight bulbs.

DAMN thats a lot bro. i would like leather seats but here in texas i would probably melt my legs off. mine came with the spoiler setup, i was going to get the mats and probably will soon since it looks like its going to be time to replace them anyway.

how much did that sunroof cost, is that the factory setup or did u get somebody else to do it??? ive been wanting to do this setup for a while and since tax refund season is here there is NO better time.

My 2k SE stalk is just a stick. No rotating bezel or intermittent adjustments.

my bad. i guess it's not a gxe/se thing, but just a difference between those with variable speed wipers and set interval wipers.

does your 2k SE also lack a homelink transmitter and power driver's seat?

I do not have power seats or homelink, but I can assure you it is an SE. I bought it with no options. The power seat and variable speed wipers are part of the Comfort and Convenience package.

Do you have a sunroof? I think they all come bundled together.
Cheston has a good write up showing what comes with the Comfort and Convenience package(power seats and intermittent wipers are part of it). http://www.seas.ucla.edu/~cheston/maxspecs.html

I got intermittent wipers, but no sunroof and no power seats...these option packages are confusing. Wow, it's cool to see a gathering of all us GXE guys.

if i'm selling my car, i'm either going to do a private sale with everything on my car as-is, or striping the car down to the 'bare' GXE when i sell it. so there's no 'what' in it.

there're very few SEs that come with no sunroof..yup, that's right folks. very hard to find(if you want one), but there are few.

gunmax has a 2000SE without a sunroof.
