extended warranty

I have recently purchased an '03 SE. I have 30 days to make a decision to buy extended warranty for $1,100. The question I would like to ask is should I or shouldn't I buy this extended warranty and from your experience, what kind of repair is most likely to happen and how much did that cost you. Many thanks,

i Think is a good buy because you never know, a new car might have problems later on but if you are selling it right after 45,000 miles dont buy it. i got that and maintenance plus.

If plan to keep the car after 45k then u should definatly go for it because in my expenience with mine 2k, I just cross the 52k mile mark and with out any warning the tranny went..... and a little for before that I had my starter replace because it was making funny noise... All under extended warrenty

That is a lie by the dealership. You have as long as you want to buy the extended warranty, up to 35,000 or 36,000 something like that. To give you reference, I have a 02 with 30,000 and am looking to get the extended because of the recent threads regarding transmission. He quoted $1,100 (which is supposedly $100 over cost). He said I can wait up till 35,000 out of the 36,000 coverage we have now from the factory. I've been told to not wait and that the price goes up with more mileage, but my personal experience has shown that to be incorrect. Its all about realin n' dealin....and how to play the game.....Also, I inquired about this some time ago and one org member said he got extended warranty for about $800. Mark-UP is astronomical in this area..

is it necessary?

I just totally blew off the sales guy when I bought my 2000 GLE because I never had a car that needed an extended warranty.

I have 35K on my Maxima and I need to decide if it is worth it and what package to get.

I've been so disappointed in the quality of my Maxima that I'm not sure I can see myself owning it for another 35K miles. However, economics might dictate that I need to keep it.

What packages do other Maxima owners have and do they get a lot of use out of them? Gold, Silver, Bronze?

I've also seen some of these 3rd party nationwide plans talked about on Edmunds - some of them are the same underwriters who do the manufacturer warranties - I can't remember the names, but I've heard some of these are less expensive and in most cases are fully acceptable - essentially it is a mechanical insurance plan.

Does anyone know about these 3rd party plans?

I once bought 3rd party plan (GE Capital). Not too happy as there is a deductible of $50 for every claim. Also the garage has to make a call to get autorization # for every piece/part/labor replaced/repaired. What ending up being is often I have to wait for a few breakdown to bring the car in to make the deductible worthwhile
