Unless you have an AEM intake it isnt wise to use it on any other intake due to slight size differences.

I considered it for my Injen CAI, but it's pretty much unneccessary.

That's the first time I've heard that comment. Are you sure about that, Y2KSESteve?

And if you've ever hydrolocked an engine, Triple8Solyou'd think twice about installing a CAI without a bypass valve.

You have to submerge the intake for it to do that. It rains alot, but it doesn't flood here in Seattle.

Yea. Theres a reason southwestautoworks wont sell them to people without an AEM intake.

The AEM bypass valve is useful if you're thinking of using your Maxima as a pontoon boat or something to drive through floods with. If you're in water that deep, you have a lot more to worry about than your engine hydrolocking.

I had an AEM CAI w/o bypass valve on my last car (01 Accord V6) and I drove that thing through the remnants of a fricken hurricane and had absolutely no problems. For the bypass valve to work, you need to have solid water covering the entire filter head which is more than halfway up the wheel.

Pretty useless, but it's just a cash cow for AEM and they laugh all the way to the bank everytime somebody buys that $2 part for $50

I don't know how usefull is bypass valve, but Sports Compact Car did a test on it. They used AEM owner's Acura NSX and put an entire filter in a bucket of water. Valve opened up and worked. But when they took the filter out of the water. engine sucked up all the water remaining in a lower portion of the intake. That wasn't enought to cause an engine hydrolocking. But it showed that unless you are using you car as a boat, it's useless
