Tire brand and size recommendation

Has anyone run any other tire size than the standard size with comes with the max on stock 17's? If so what size did you run and did it perform well?

Please use SEARCH and read the FAQ's.

This has been beaten beyond death into a bloody pulp.

245/45/17 with Dunlop sp 5000's are nice but run out quick same with Sumitomo HTR+. Try some S-03 pole positions

True. Nevertheless, you can always count on someone to weigh in with their opinion for the umpteen-thousandth time . . .

I bought a set of Pirelli P6's 255/35/17. They're one step wider so I had to bring the tire ratio down to 35. They seem to be pretty good in the rain... snow and ice is a completely different story. Picked up a set of 4 for $660 with mounting and balance included in philly.

I don't see the problem in asking periodically; new tire designs are coming out all the time. What was hot 3 months ago may not be the best today.

For me, I'm looking at the Michelin Pilot sport A/S..seems to have gotten some good feedback on tire rack. I'm looking forward to new tires when these potenzas give out. Actually I think the Turanzas on my wifes GLE are worse than the Potenzas are on my SE. I'm actually looking forward to replacing both sets!!

I don't want to change wheels or anything, so I'm always interested in what others have put on their cars.

Maybe this should be a sticky thread?

If we made a sticky out of every "which tires should I purchase to replace my stock Potenza's?" thread, it would take 10 pages to get to a thread on any other subject.

In this case, Maxmann, I have to side with those who agree that the search function is your friend.

That and a little thing called research. I mean looking at places like TireRack, etc. that list survey results or other websites that have actual feedback on products. THEN if you think you have it narrowed down, come around and put up a post asking about specific tires.

Thanks for the responses guys. My purpose in asking is because I saw in Maxfaqs the size 235/45 17 recommended. I know this is not the stock tire size. I wanted to see if anyone had success with this size as opposed to the stock tire. I realize this subject has been discussed extensively now. I will try out that size since it appears to be a crowd favorite and there are no hard and fast rules. Thanks again.

If you're basing your decision on the research you conducted using the FAQs and the search function, then you're probably good to go. Otherwise, you'd be well advised to conduct some due diligence BEFORE you change your tire size from the original.

Good luck!

255's are not one step wider than stock and I have never heard of this setup on a Max.

I can't even find where that tire and size even exist.

Point well taken given the fact that the T&RA doesn't list a tire in that size.

I just bought new tires this weekend. I bought Toyo Proxes FZ4's in 235/45/17 on the stock rims. I love them in the rain and cornering. They are not too loud now but I have heard they do get a bit loud. As for treadwear I have heard people say they got anywhere from 15-35,000 out of them so basically its all how you drive. Hope this helps somewhat.

I also have Toyo Proxes FZ4 215/55/16's on the stock wheels. Awesome in the wet and snow, quiet too. Being 16's they prob aren't too worse than the 17's in the corners. I give the tire an A.

Thanks again. The 245/45 17's seem to be the way to go. How is the ride? Is the ride much more harsher than the stock tires? For anybody who looks in. Has anyone ever purchased the knock off rims? I found a couple of web sites which sell re-manufactured rimes at less than half the price of stock. I am hesitant to purchase them though. Anyone had any success with these rims/wheels?

Uh, not 100% true. Depending on which tire (manufacturer and model) the specs on those can call for a 7.5" OR 8.0" minimum rim width.

While 7.5" may be 'doable', 8.0" is not cool.
