JIC Coilover Uninstall

Well after less than a week, I decided to pull the coilovers. While the car handled great, I couldn't take the poor roads around here. I didn't even notice it before, but even the stock suspension has trouble with these roads, but I guess I just got use to it. However, there was no way I was going to get used to the ride with coilovers and so pulled them. This also means that I probably just going to sell them as I can't see a less aggressive spring doing much with these roads. To add insult to injury, I ended up damaging the undertray with a jack when taking them out. Luckily its in the rear passenger floor board so I don't really see it, but it still annoys me. This whole experience has just got me really down with modding my car. I was so enthusiastic about modding ever since I bought the car, but this experience has just about killed that in me. Not only is some of the work a total PITA with no room anywhere to do anything, but the poor results with the mods in place has led me to second guess my intentions with this car, Initially I had thought I was going to keep this car for a long time, ie 10yrs or longer, but now I'm just totally ****ed and just want to get rid of it in 6 yrs or so (got to have at least 3 yrs with no car payments). I really just don't know what to do anymore. I'm more ****ed at myself than anything and that just makes it all the more worse. I think I would be less angry if someone else damaged the car, but when I do it, I just get all that much more aggrevated with myself and the car. Sorry about the rant, but I just had to get this out of me.

Did you have anyone to help you with this? Sounds like it would be frustrating if you didn't have the right environment or support.

Sorry to hear you are kinda bummed. Maybe you can find a local performance place that can work with you on finding the right suspension combo for your car.

How come you didn't try softer spring rates on the JIC coil-over. It worked for a lot of ppl.???

Currently I'm not sure what route to take at this point. On the one hand I have the stuff already, but on the other I just don't see how I'll ever get an acceptable ride out of them around here. As I mentioned, even the stock suspension has trouble isolating the roads around here. Not that I mind b/c I have gotten used to it. However, it should have been a sign to me that a coilover package was not going to work. This is why I am kind of hesitant in putting in different springs b/c I really don't want to go through all of this again. While the ride would be better with softer springs, 6k springs are still pretty aggresive, lets not get mistaken about that. Tein uses 3.6/4.8k rated springs in their S.Tech application. Its a big jump to 6/5k if I were to go with softer spring rates and thats assuming that the S.Tech rode like stock which I'm sure they don't. The problem with all of this is I haven't been able to get a really good idea how each combo compares to one another. Some say the JIC coilovers ride like the H&R/Tokico combo or at the most the Eibach/Tokico combo. I then have to rely on what those are realtive to stock and thats all opinion and dependent to a degree on area. Using the above info with others saying that the H&R/Tokico combo is most like stock, I thought I couldn't go wrong. I though I could have everything, good handling, good ride quality, etc. In the end, I got nothing but a damaged undertray. Trust me when I say I don't want to give up on the coilovers, but I really just don't know what to do. I guess part of it, as 2kSeattleMax mentioned, is that I didn't have the right support or environment for this. Its hard to say "lets try again" when the first results are so poor.

Wow, if that's the case, I wonder how other ppl who have JIC on their maximas can stand the ride quality since the default spring rates are 9k/6k...
and I am sure they don't really go to track that often to justify the high spring rates!

Sorry to hear about your disappointment with the JIC's. Did you get the SF-1 or the FLT-A2 then?

Either way, I am currently in the market for some coilovers, so let me know if you decide to sell...
