I had a friend race me in his 2002, 6 speed. No hesitation. Mine is 2003, 6 speed, with a bit hesitation due to throttle-by-wire?. I had my car to the dealer Wednesday, where a technician took it for a test drive to check for hesitation problem. I had put synthetic first and then without much warm up he pushed it to 55 mph in second (Could this cause engine damage?) and said it pulls really strong: no apparent hesitation.
The result of the race: 20-60 in 2nd was a dead heat (twice). So I feel my Max although has the hesitation bit does pull as hard as one without. By the way I love my 03, 6 speed. Glacier white, Titanium, Moonr, mudg and wind deflector

both 02-03 have throttle-by-wire systems.

cars are faster when they're cold(not morning cold)...cold like after you havn't turned the engine for a couple of hours

Did you not read the thread? The accomplishment was that he was able to determine his "hesitating" max is as quick as a none "hesitating" max.

On 2002 + max's the car will not go WOT until the car is fully heated up. So the car is not any quicker on a cold engine, infact it's quite a bit slower.

yeah i read the thread throttle by wire has a hesitation, there is nothing that i heard that has been noted as a fix. throttle by wire = signals being sent/received. get a car with a mechanical shifting system, no hesitation.

that's good to know, so even when you push the pedal to the metal, if the engine is cold, it won't go WOT...

that is good for preserving an engine's life...

I don't either...I rarely let it warm up before I actually go anywhere, but I don't take it above 2500 rpm until my automatic climate control is kicking out warm air...and the temp needle has moved a 1/4 inch or so...

and then I creep up to 2500 rpm before shifting...always babying it when she's cold.

Like everyone is saying... cars are quicker when the engine has been given time to warm up. Cold air, not cold engine, will make the car quicker. Cold air is denser than warm air, so this means more air for the engine to breathe. Hence the purpose of a COLD air intake.

Yes to all that... but did you guys read the 7 year old posts? It's freaking hilarious.

Inquiring minds want to know what WOT is...

Do the 2 of u shift the same?
Funny stuff.

Actually, that one makes pretty good sense. By the time that happens, everything that needs to warm up and/or flow freely is fairly well on its way toward thermal equilibrium. This includes things like engine oil, tranny fluid/lube, even bearing greases. Works even if the coolant temp gauge is inop.
