if you are talking about the k&n drop in filter, stock replacement then you should be looking at anywhere from 30-40 bucks depending on where you pick it up.

well, there are hundreds of others. obviously you would have to have a maf adapter to attach the filter and get rid of the stock air box. i answered that way in case he had the adapter and didnt want to reoil the cone filter he already had. (maf failures)

Do yourself a favor and plan out your mods ahead of time. When I first got my Maxima, I spent about $45 for the K&N drop in filter. Within a couple of months, I decided to get the Stillen intake with the cone filter. Ended up blowing $45 for the K&N drop in and now I have no use for it! Do your homework and planning. Trust me, it'll save you money in the long run...

Ok, i'm trying to take all this in here, i'm used to working on motorcycles not cars ahah. I'm so impressed with this site and all the work you guys do on your max!

So will i get any performance out of a drop k&n filter? As of right now, i'm leaning toward the frankencar intake and k&n. It doesn't sound to hard to install, is it? It sounds like this mod will give me some cool sound

thanks again guys for your time,

almost nothing... you'll hear claims of "up to 15hp" but it's crap. *IF* you get 3hp feel lucky.

Here's the K & N cone set up I used for awhile. With my Y, B and muffler mod upgrades I gain so much hp from this filter assembly that my automatic shifted too high. I was hitting the revlimiter before shift. I have since gone back to my stock flter and brought the shifts down to an acceptable 6400 rpm. I have 13 less hp but at least it will shift properly now.

Same mistake here. I bought my intake within a month after buying my drop in. Honestly, you'll see no difference in the drop in K&N. You'll have to get an intake to see any gains. I realize that being new you probably only know the name K&N, but Apexi makes better filters. It's just up to you if you want to spend $40 for the K&N for life or $70 for the Apexi which lasts 30k miles. Both have good air flow, but the Apexi catches more dirt.

It's a little work getting the couplers to fit on the intake manifold and pieces, but it's a very simple process. Before coming here I only did oil changes and spark plugs. These buttmunches will turn you into a mechanic in no time.

there isnt much horsepower gain, maybe 2. the nice thing is that it will be the last filter you buy if you take care of it. there is nothing to the install, pop 2 clips then remove old filter and drop in the new one and pop the clips back. it does flow better so it could improve mileage somewhat, with all other factors being equal.

Is this set up available for the Maxima or is it a custom job?

That's a Berk adaptor and a standard K & N cone filter. Sorry but I don't have the part number for the K & N but you could probably find it at their web site. It a 3" inlet x 5" x 9" long I believe. Maybe 10" long. If you need exact dimensions I can get them for you. I also bought the little K & N for the vent but don't have a part number for it either. Just look it up under the size you want.
