Strange noises upon starting and shutting off my 2k SE (65 k)
Sounds like something mechanical is shutting off after engine
is off, sounds like a sqawking bird. Performance and everything else are great. Any ideas ?

 

i only hear it after i shutdown but i think you are describing the noise i hear. i was told it was the electrical motor mounts. mine is kind of a buzzing noise but it sounds like it clicks back and forth.

I spoke to a nissan mechanic buddy and he said that he saw an internal memo on noisy elec motor mounts. He said it is big $$$
to fix but it isn't hurting anything.

The noise is driving me crazy.

 

vi closing and vacuum let offs ... all normal

 

yeah, dont expect any 10 dollar mounts, when i lived in wilmington, they actually replaced my motor mounts. they said the noise would go away but it didnt. they covered it under warranty but i can live with the noise and i got new motor mounts at 15k.

I have a 2001 SE and experienced the same problem about 8 months ago. Each time I would turn the key to the "on" position or turn the engine off, I would hear this high pitched winding sound for a few seconds. I had my local Nissan dealer look at it and they confirmed it was the electronic motor mounts. Nissan either replaced or repaired the motor mounts...the sound is gone.
