nasty screeching sound in window

Hey guys,
So on my way to work today, I decided to roll the driver's side window down, and it made a HORRIBLE screeching/scratching sound, as if something was rubbing the window on its way down. I tried to open/close it a few times, and the sound didn't go away. My passenger side window is fine, and so are the back windows, but the driver's one is messed up apparently.

I did a search just now, and found some rather old posts with people having the same problem. However, they were suggesting spraying silicone on the windows and then rolling them up and down to coat the window's path. However, my Max is only a few months old and only has 1600 miles, so I'd rather get this fixed professionally by the Nissan dealership.

So here's what I'm wondering. Has anyone had this problem and got it fixed by Nissan? What did they do to resolve the problem? Also, has anyone had this noise, and then had it go away on its own? I'd rather not bring it in for any work cause we all know how Nissan sometimes does more harm than good when working on our cars.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. TIA

All summer I had this noise, and I was spraying some lubricant with teflon but it only made it go away for a week or so at a time.
For some strange reason it hasn't been making any sound for last few months. So I'm not sure if it went away due to lower temperatures, or just resolved on its own.
peace

check TSBs

depending on your model year - there was a TSB for the front windows squealing due to lack of lubrication in the window glides or something - I can't really remember, but I complained and they said they would do the repair.

To be honest - it is not that much better. Just a little. The dealer now claims the tint on my windows is part of the problem (BS for sure - what that means is the tech wanted to leave early that day).

However, check the TSB sticky - I think there is some information on that problem.

Mine is a 2003, no tints, and as a matter of fact, since it's been so cold here in Boston for the last few months, I haven't even opened my windows that much. So it's not like I use them so much that dirt could have gotten into its path or whatever. I'm just really bummed that this problem occurred out of nowhere. I'm going to see if it went away after work, hopefully so.

I have the same problem, at times it sounds as-if sand is in the tracks. Once u get the windows lubed, it will go away. I need to stop by and get mine done

Igor, so it this problem recurring for you, or you just haven't fixed it yet?

My 95 Accord has really sh!tty front windows, that barely roll up and down, and sometimes get stuck while rolling up when it's humid out. I'd hate to have another window problem in the Max.

So does this seem to be another one of those issues that plagues the Max, kind of like the BOSE rattles?

I keep getting it over and over. I just get them to lube the tracks at every oil change.

I got a 03 SE auto, I had the same problem a few weeks ago and got it fixed by my dealership under warranty. I think they changed the window regulator.

White lithium spray or silicone-based spray work the best and tend to stick to the moving parts better.

My dealer ordered and installed new front tracks for both sides, I didn't have the noise but they were slow and would stick down in temps below 40 degrees. They lubed them and it helped while
I waited for the new ones to arive.

This happened to me when I first got the car...

They lubed the channels many times, and it never fixed the problem, so finally the replaced the tracks and the motor, all under warranty. They didn't do that for me until I actually showed them in front of their eyes and my window got stuck. Ha.

I've been having this problem for over a year and it was especially bad with driver side rear window - it sounded like it had broken gear. Silicon didn't help at all and window was moving slowly. One day I took off the regulator and found that grease somehow transformed into sticky substance, similar to honey. Don't worry, I didn't taste that . I washed the gears with WD40 and put lithium grease there instead. Now that window flies and doesn't make that horrible noise. I can see that it moves at least twice as fast as others and it was the slowest one before.

Mike.

Would I want to spray it in the window channel up high along the curve of the window or down below with the window all the way down?

You definitely don't want to spray it on the glass or window channel. You'll have grease all over your arms everytime you roll down the window. The correct way is to take the door panel off and lube the actual mechanism. You can try to put the window up all the way and get in underneath there with the nozzle, but you are literally taking a shot in the dark.

My 2000 GLE had the same exact problem. My car is still under warranty and the dealer fixed it under warranty. They replaced the glass run in the driver's door. According to the invoice, the part was $87.98 and the labor was $151.20. The window goes up and down quietly and much smoother than before.
