OT-People owing me money

OK here's the deal: I sold a motorcycle part to a guy in Seattle, WA back in Nov. the guy waits 3 weeks and doesn't receive the part so I refund him his $190.00 for the part with the understanding that when the part arrives he returns it (in writing)in the meantime I start the Post office lost mail thing to collect the insurance. Finally a 2 weeks ago I receive a letter stating the guy received the part on 30 Jan 03 and that no money will be disbursed. No I email the guy and he doesn't reply to my messages? I email his wife (where he paypal'd me from) and she replies that they recieved the part and she would find out what was going on, that was last Sunday and now they won't reply to my messages. we are talking almost 200 dollars what should I do? Then Warpspeed of all people overcharge me for the Y pipes by $155.00 and say they will send a check the same day they ship the pipe out (I'm wondering why they don't credit the acct?)so I say okay. Wait 1 week after pipe is recieved and no check. I called last Friday and spoke to a lady there who said if Dallas hasn't yet sent the check that she will mail it out on Sat. No we are at Thursday and still no check so I call and again talk to the same lady who says the same thing again. If Dallas hasn't mailed it she'll mail it tomorrow? WTF I don't understand why when I owe somebody money it is paid immediately and when somebody owes me money I have to go through this B/S. What should I do regarding these 2 situations?

Sounds like you are WAAYYYYYY too trusting and are too easy to deal with.

You're right, the guy should have sent back your 190$, and the other guy should have credited your account, BUT you shouldn't have refunded the money before starting with the USPS and you should have insisted they credit your account.

I hope you get your money back because it's an expensive lesson if not.

edit: was any of this done by credit card or paypal? If so, start the necessary stuff with them to cancel the payment on the bike thing and threaten to cancel the entire payment for the y-pipe and that might get stuff moving.

I totally understand what you mean. Sometimes people feel that if they waited too long you don't deserve your money. Or get mad at a credit card company for charging them so much interest even though they agreed to it when they signed up. This my friend is the difference between a responsible adult and a scumbag.

Personally, I got WAY into trouble when I was younger with credit cards (to the tune of $25,000). I did not miss one payment (even though I could only pay the minimum) and after years of scrimping and saving I paid off every last dime that I owed. Some people said "why don't you declare bankruptcy?". My response was always "I borrowed the money, and I'll pay it back".

Just a warning on 2 notes to the young ones on the .Org:

1) If you have a friend who doesn't pay his bills, he will do the same thing to you if you lend him money.

2) Don't buy what you can't pay at the end of every month.

Sorry I don't have much advice on your situation....good luck.
