Ruff shifting
Ruff shifting
I got 62k miles and use Red Line MT-90 since 20k. I also have a Pace Setter STS. Couple of days ago I notices that shifting is not as smooth as it used to be. I even have to use some force when I'm down shifting to 3rd gear. It's been pretty cold lately in Chicago. Do you think 1) it's weather related or 2) it's time to change tranny fluid or 3) my tranny is dying?
I don't want to take it to a dealer because I know they gonna blame it on STS and void my warranty on tranny.
Any help will be appreciated
Thanks
Nik

I think manual fluid change every 30K also. According to the fluid analysis.

IIRC, drive train warranty is 60K OR 5 years...which ever is first. I think.

Thanks Colonel

I remember ready Bills sheet and seeing that tranny fluid was not lasting as long as expected. Whether that is the solution, dunno. But it is a good place to start. You might also want to make sure all your "linkages" are ok. Make sure nothing slipped on your STS install or something like that.
Mine has problems, but I think the syncros are going. I have to fiddle with it to get it into 2nd gear more and more. And its not weather related. It got really warm yesterday (55) and still had problems. Its going to the shop as soon as the weather warms up a tad so I can bike into work.
You need 4.5 quarts.

Update on the Tranny.
I had a dealer do a trunny flush and I brought my own Red Line fluid. They said fluid was clean with no gold shavings and they didn't give me any problem with Red Line. Actually one of the guys said it was a better fluid than what they used. Shifting is back to normal. I guess Red Line/Synthetic fluid has to be change as often as mineral.

I wish I had time to stay and watch them. I had to drop it off, because I had a meeting with a customer, but guy who worked on the car is my co-workers old classmate and we kind of "trust" him. He's still refused to do timing advance though. Service manager at the dealership told them not to do this under any circumstances. Go figure. But I think, if there was gold shaving and syncros were going they would tell me just to make more money of me. Plus they know I have a STS and would give me all the BS about warranty.

Its getting nicer. I might do the fluid change myself in a brand new container and if its bad...take it to them.
