keep it or sell

ok peoples i have a situation to address. i have a 00 SE with 92000 miles on it. the auto tranny has been rebuilt and then some. my question is what do the majority of you think about selling the car for an 02 or keeping the car, swapping it to a 5 speed and continue modding it? the car still looks good with no major paint flaws and the interior still looks new but after looking at kelly blue book and seeing that the value of the car is only 8500 i am stuck. any and all opinions are appreceated.

It's real simple can you afford a new car with your Maxima onl being worh 8,500. If you trade the car in the dealer will not give you that amount of $$ for the car. Secondly is the car already paid for or will you have to add the amount you are upside down on the car to the new car? If you are already having major maintance work done though in the long run the car will be expensive to maintain.

In short if you can afford to get rid of the car do so and get a used Maxima there are plenty of used 2003 6spd Maximas going for 16-18K right now but if you can afford a new car right now save your money up and go to the lots in a couple months.

Are you sure there are "plenty" of used 2003 6 speeds for sale period? And on top of that for 16-18, seems kind of low for barely year old car. Perhaps you meant 2002?

why would you want to purchase another maxima that looks exactly the same as the one your have right now? Is it worth 12K for the extra additions? I myself have decided to drive my car until it explodes because the depreciation of my vehicle is too much for me!!! I thought about trading/sellign my car, but after I spoke with Kelley at Blue Book, she told me to keep my car. LOL...

I have been weighing a similar dilemna. I have a 2001 SE 5 Speed that is in perfect condition with 34K miles. After looking at the resale value, I have decided to keep the car for 2 more years, after which I will give it to my son when he gets his license. I may add a leather seat kit and or a turbo kit to keep myself entertained for 2 more years (I guess I would remove a turbo kit prior to giving the car to a 16 yr old). If finances aren't the issue (they aren't with me either), do the 5sp mod and anything that suits you and keep going.
