Engine damage w/ defective coils?

I was wondering if I'll have any engine damage from driving around with defective engine coils (I'm assuming it's that. My SES light came on yesterday after getting my rear brake pads replaced for some reason). I don't have the time to go into the dealer anytime soon.

Well.... I would get the code read before assuming anything. Go to a local autozone and have them read the code. Bad coils may cause detonation which will hurt your engine...

well... I was just at the dealer getting the coil fix today.
my SES light was on.. and the the code was P1320 (primary ignition) and P0304 (cylinder #4 misfiring)... be prepare to pay big bucks for it.. my bill came out to be like.. 600+
you might be able to get it cheaper if you know the code already.

good luck

$600?!?!?!

You can get all 6 coils from Dave Burnette for like $240 (last I checked) ... Swapping them is easier than changing your plugs....

Are there instructions online on how to change the coils? Also will the SES light reset itself or do you have to take it in again to get it reset if you do it yourself?

The front coils are under the plastic cover on the valve cover. They are held in by 10mm bolts. The ones in the rear are tougher to get to but they are also held in by 10mm bolts. Just disconnect the wires going to them and pull them out. It's simple.... do a search on how to change your plugs and you will see...

$600?!?!?!? Another lovely Nissan service writer hosing a customer. The coils are $40-$50 each, and should take a mechanic an hour or less to replace all 6.

What's the mileage on your car? I'm 99% sure the coils are covered under the TSB until 60K miles.

I just called Nissan, they are going to call my dealer to see why this is not covered under warranty... we should see.

Oh, I'll be interested to hear how you make out. I got mine replaced, but the dealer would only replace the one bad coil, not the entire pack. I was under the impression that the whole set should have been replaced.

just heard back from Nissan... she called two dealer (MI and CA) and both of them said that it's cover under 3 year 36,000 miles warranty.
I have roughly 45000 miles on the car.

If someone had their's done after the 3 year or 36,000 miles warranty, please let me know, if possible send me a copy of your receipt. I want my money back if this is cover under 60k warranty.

thanks

some have, some havent.. technically, most electronic items arent covered to 60K. For instance, the tranny is, the tranny control module isnt.. but if the tranny is sufficiently screwed up, you can get it replaced under warranty :/

I was told once that replacing my TCM so my tranny wouldnt fail was "preventative mx" and that nissan doesnt do that asisine..

ok..... they did replace all 6 coils.. now is that necessary? On my work order, it only says Cylinder #4 is misfiring.. so to me.. they only need to replace cylinder #4.... but they replace all of them.... the code is P0304

Thanks

Prolly following Audi/VW's lead. They just recalled 500,000 vehicles for coil problems. Their TSB instructs dealers to replace all the coils regardless of which of them may be misfiring.

BTW, Nissan replaced all of my coils before the TSB was issued and all of my wife's coils after it was issued.
