I agree. Possibly if the change the styling of the grille/bumper/headlight assembly it would look tons better

Plus, the rear, the inside Rsx knockoff, and stupid moonroof and about another dozen things.

well lets no be haterz of our own family CAr..Maxima... I think the outside looks like a stretched Altima with an ugly overall aspect for me... But the inside is tight as hellz, the inside looks very luxuriuos... Other than that, looks like an Alty to me... Also, the quarter mile times are running 15's flat and even 15.2's ... Come on now... the only car I am jealous of not having is The Z

Re: The 04 is Ugly

I don't know...the '04 is kind of growing on me...except for that funky grille. But the rest isn't too bad.

I just wish Nissan didn't have to go the Toyota route of making all their cars have the same distinctive "signature" features. The '04 Maxima, Sentra, and Quest will have similar looking front grilles, and many of the new Nissans seem to have similar looking steering wheels and gauge pods. And that aluminum look for the dash just doesn't do it for me. I love the stark black of my Maxima's dash.

But other than that, I think the '04 is rather stylish with some cool features. I love the Skyview concept (again, the same design across lots of new Nissans) and the four bucket seats option. And the horsepower, my god, the horsepower!

Nissan is on a win streak with good reviews of their new lines starting with the Altima, then the 350Z, Murano, Maxima, Quest, and the Titan. And with the G35 sedan & coupe and the FX35/45 on the Infiniti side, Nissan seems to be doing great.

Nissan isn't doing so bad, but needs to take care of some issues we have with our cars,,, missing horsepower???, paint chipping???,,, windnoise TSB???, many others...

Remember when the wind deflectors were tearing apart,,, it took them a whole year just to fix the problem and give us new ones... Thats Nissan Service for ya...

remember the HP or Torque numbers on the 04' and that should make you rethink things! As far as the looks, I like it, It definately has some possibilities. That sunroof is HOT!!!

plus........
when 5th gens came out, everyone hated on it...some people still hate it...i love it....everyone hates change
give it time, it'll get accepted. and when 7th gens and 8th gens,etc... come out, people will hate it, but then they'll learn to either like it or accept it.

i'm not a FAN of the 04, though the moonroof is pretty hot, i like how the rear windshield is dipped in a bit. i actually like the front grill and i see how they're going with the thin, long headlight scheme (like the GTR prototype and the G35)

it's got it's pros and cons, but so does every car.

ya definatly has pros and cons. i love the exhaust (hopin it sounds like the Z), and the interior is so nice, expecially with the rear bucket seats. i'd take those in a heartbeat. but at the moment, there's no way i'd trade my 2k2 for the 6th gen Max

Yeah, at first glance I thought, "Damn, what the. . .". Then, again, I never thought that I'd buy a Maxima to start with until I saw and drove my '03 SE. The '04 looks to me like a big *** Altima. The only thing I'm disappointed about is that it doesn't sound like the engine isn't going to be tuned to pump out much more horseys. The exterior may or may not grow on us, but I've come to expect each new generation of the Max to be more powerful than the last. And with as much cosmetic overhaul as the '04 is getting, I would of hoped Nissan would do something more with the engine.

I saw the 04 max for the first time in person yesterday and its not as bad as i thought it was gonna be. It has some cool features and a ton of power, but the change in exterior styling is so drastic and thats why i think its ugly. Along with what PoLo said, its different than what everyone is used to when u think about a maxima so its gonna hit ya pretty hard and i think thats the main reason why im not a big fan of it yet. I hated the way the Z looked when they first came out but it has grown on me alot since i first saw it in person and now i think its a beautiful looking car. Just give the 04 max some time to grow on ya.

At leaset the '04 Maxima looks way better than the new Accord.

Let's blame the French. (Maybe Renault designed it?)

Yeah, when was the last time you saw a good looking French car? Damn, they're easy to pick on. Aren't they?

I thought it was just me. I agree with 02'maxed-out, the 2004 looks like a stretched Altima. I don't especially like the Altima styling, but I understand why Nissan designed it the way they did. It has a target market and probably does really well there. BUT to do this to the Maxima, which is a different market completely, makes no sense at all. I WILL skip over this generation of Maximas, I just hope the 7th Generation looks better.

04. No way!

From the front. Big chrome tooth, cornering lamps(?why?) and no fog lamps, grill with all those chrome rectangles, rear quarter windows that end abruptly and do not flow with the roof line, same 4x4 look. The one I saw at the dealer show room has orange peel in the left quarter panel paint, the gap at the left and right headlights were uneven(hood was 1/8" below the fender at the right headlight). Nissan has some winners right now, but the 04 Maxima is definately NOT one of them. They really blew it on this one. I'll keep my 2000.

I think most of us got the same first impression on the '04's, and Nissan really needs to get with the program on this one. As a new owner of a '03 SE, I got an awesome deal on my car which had a measly 1700 miles on it at time of purchase, and I'm glad that I didn't wait for the new models to come out. I still say that we should blame the French! I mean the thing looks like something that the French would design, except it's a lot bigger than any of their cars.
