Falken tires

Hello!

Has anyone here tried Falken tires?

My OE Potenzas are quickly bolding and would like to replace soon.

I have looked at Michellin Sport AS, but at $200 bucks a piece, they are pushing my budget.

Falken seem to provide the wet/snow traction I am looking for with decent threadwear. Thing is, I never heard of this brand before.

Looking at the specs for both tires, I can see they are very similar, yet I can't find enough people to speak for the Falkens.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Newbie

Welcome aboard. Check out the TireRack site and yes they have approved local installers for the tires that they sell. A great place to educate yourself about the tire that is best for you.

Sorry my browser copy function is not working.

I have them. Try 'em out. I think you'll find that they're pretty good.

Sumitoma HTR+

in reponse to the question about Faulken tires. I did extensive research about what tires to replace my OE Protenza's with. I finally decided to go with the Sumitoma HTR+ 235/45/17. They have a very aggressive tread, great ride....quiet....and handle much better than the OE. Traction is very very much improved over OE. Dont know about treadlife yet, only about 1000 miles on them so far. I didnt like the Protenza's however, i did get 57,000 miles of my set. I have a 2000 SE...great car....never been in shop for anything until last week. Had to replace an ignition coil.

Thanks,
Max Bear

Falken in the snow

thanks for your responses.

It seems from the other posts, that these tires aren't that great on the snow. Anybody in the northeast that has them?

The ratings at 101tires are very high for snow and traction overall.

Me personally, if i am going to spend $200 bucks a pop for each tire, I might as well up grade my rims... Try www.wheelmax.com, they have sets of rims and tires in a set to sell. It is worth...

Re: Falken Ziex-512

I Had the original size 225/50/17 for replacement, are you going to upgrade you rims since 225/45/17 won't fit on 17 X 7.

I have the ZE-512, the tires are amazing in the snow and rain. Nice looking tire, handle great, quiet, night and day to the stock Potenza.

Research

After my extensive research between Falken 451 and Sumitomo HTR+, if I was gonna buy, I'd go with the Sumitomo's. They're just good all around tire.
good luck

No kumhos

Kumho's are only summer tires. As long as I'll live in NY, i'll never get Kumhos again. They horrible in snow, loud in cold, and ride comfort is not too great. I'd go with sumitomos.

I live in Dallas, TX. Therefore, You won't catch me out on the street in the snow. I just need something that is grippy, decent in rain (anything is better than Craptenzas) and affordable.

Kumho's OK up to 15K

Then after 15K they go downhill fast...extremely loud and quick wear. But, if you're spending $200 each on Mich's, you can have 2 1/2 sets of Kumhos and throw them away every 15000 miles.

Personally I won't ever buy Michelins again because they're French. I won't purchase anything French again knowingly. Americans should boycott French goodsin my opinion. They suck.

Sumitomos are not more expensive than Kumhos.

but yet you're still driving a car owned by a French company?

Falkens are pretty good tires...they're not that horribly expensive yet they deliver pretty good traction and tread wear.
