Question?

I am as of now selling my 2000 Civic Si. I am hoping to be able to soon buy a 2002 Maxima SE (titanium color) with 29000 miles for 19,900, and that is having brand new leather installed. There is hardly nothing wrong with it, although the rear bumper seems to need reapinting due to the few scrathces, but I am having them fix that at the dealership. BTW it is a demo car that they drove. J/W if this is a good buy or not.

P.S. I test drove hte car and it is very fast as compared to my SI. It is A/T but that is what I want.

WHY would you buy a demo with 29kmiles for $20k dollars when you can get a brand new one for about $23k? Check it out, and if you're financing it the rates are better on new cars so I bet the payment comes out nearly the same.

check the demo thoroughly

Hey...

A demo will be ok, as long as you give it a very intensive lookover to make sure nothing is wrong. People do drive the cars hard to see what it can do. That said, our 93 Corolla was a demo and it's still going strong today, with no problems whatsoever.

My 2k1 Max was a rental, also a class of cars that are driven hard, but it's been holding up fine for the 20,000 miles I've had it (knock on wood). Have a trusted mechanic look at the car first, and if it checks out, go ahead and save the $3k.

Yea, $20K is WAY too much. People are getting 2k3's brand new for $22 - $23. Please look around some more.

As far as the demo, think of it as marrying a hooker. EVERYONE had their way with it and wasn't nice at all about it!

You should be able to get incredible deals on 2k2 and 2k3's right now. The 2k4's are starting to show up at the dealerships and they want to get rid of the old models. Haha. 2k3 is already an old model. My car is 2 model years old and I've had it for 8 months.

Re: Question?

Well I have been looking at the dealership here in Ky and the 2003's are listed at right around 29,000. What I am looking for is a 2000-2003 Maxima with less than 30K miles in real nice condition, with leather, automatic transmision, cd, and all power options. I have definitly not seen a new one for 20-23 thousand. I don't want to buy a base model car, I want the options listed above.

DON'T BUY THAT DEMO FOR THAT PRICE!!!

when the 2k3's first came out my parents got a BRAND NEW 2k2 for $22,000.

A demo is usually driven pretty hard because the person driving it didn't care about it like it was his/her own.

I think you should be able to get the car for $16,000-$17,000.

29,000 miles is a lot for a 1 year old car.

for a maxima, now i29,000 IS barely broke in, but REALLY 29,000 miles? you can get a brand new 2k3 for $1000 below invoice and 0.9% financing!

interest savings alone will make up for the cost of 2k3. 0.9% BABY!!!!!

if it lists for $29,000 you shold be able to get it for $23-24,000.

negotiate...go to several dealers. Tell them you want to buy at below invoice...go to www.kbb.com find invoice, and find out what it is...

a friend of mine just bought a 2k3 automatic with Titanium Edition (includes 6 disc in-dash changer) for $800 under invoice, and that was 2 months ago... the 2k4's are out, and they should easily be selling them for $1000 under invoice by now...

you can't get 0.9% on the 2k2...that will make up for the difference in price.

do a little more research. The 20K 2k2 is NO WAY a good buy....

take it from all the Maxima owners that are trying to talk you out of it here...

Re: DON'T BUY THAT DEMO FOR THAT PRICE!!!

I went to KellyBlueBook www.kbb.com and they said with 29,000 miles a 2002 maxima is $20,370. http://www.kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/kw.kc.urr?kbb.KY;571658;KY047&42240;sed&40;Nissan;2002%20Maxima&2; NI;D4&
What do you guys think i should do, try to get the price down??? she said basically 20,000 with brand new leather installed.

Build your own Nissan

That's for my area code, but it lists the options at invoice price instead of MSRP price. Edmunds is good for pricing everything except Nissan's for some reason...

as some posters above said, i would avoid buying a demo car, if i had the choice. i test drove two maximas before i purchased my 2k2. first car never saw a rev below 5K. second car - i brake torqued right to redline, with traction control off. did that 2 or 3 times to see how much rubber i can burn. this was during the break in period. no doubt the engines in demo cars see much more friction than a properly broken in car. this leads to a noisier, less smooth, and more problem prone car down the road.

I think you should seriously look at a 2k3.

if you can get a 2k3 w/Leather for $25,000 at 0.9%, you're payments will be about the same as a $20,000 2k2 w/Leather at 7.9%

what interest rates did you get approved for on the 2k2?

is your credit "beacon" score above 680? if so, you can get the 0.9% financing from Nissan on the 2k3...and you can get it $1000 below invoice. Because the 2004 models are out, and they will be trying hard to get rid of the 2k3's.

ask the dealer what your payments will be on the 2002 model?.

go to another dealer, and ask what he want's for a 2k3. Tell them you want to buy NOW, but you have to be at the right price...($2000 below invoice...then settle for $1000 under invoice).

There is no reason you should pay more than that. They aren't selling very fast. Economy is slow...

good luck.

DON'T BUY THAT DEMO FOR THAT PRICE!!!

just went to Nissan's payment calculator....

Payment Estimator by Nissan

0 down, $25,000 @ 0.9% is $426.27 per month for 60 months

0 down, $20,000 @ 7.9% is $404.57 per month for 60 months

that's a difference of $22 a month, and you get a BRAND NEW CAR! you get to break it in, no one ragged it out...

an "almost" loaded Maxima that stickers for $28-29,000 should be able to be had for $25,000 no problem...

if you are having trouble negotiating with the dealer, come to KC, I know several that would sell to you at $1000 under invoice without thinking twice about it... and you'll get the 0.9% if you have good credit.

They'll be good payments. Go to www.peoplefirst.com and check out their online calculators. Don't forget to estimate tax and all the other things.

Well the deal is I can get a 2003 or whatever if I can get my monthly payments around the same as my 2000 Si's. I need my monthly payments to be 350 or around that a month. this means I will probably have to put some down on it, but I can't put down a whole lot, maybe be a few thousand, no more than 3500 though! I am still tryin to sell my car first though, that is what will take so long.
