auto vlsd ??

Do you think ... If I pay for the up-grade(?,vlsd)and i only mean the difference between stock vs vlsd, they would install a VLSD? would that be considered an up-grade, vlsd that is ?? and is it worth it for the auto??
I am currently in shop for tranny repair and Service Writer is considering a new/rebuilt tranny to fix SES lite (see thread: 'autotragic(long)'). 2000 SE ...

HUH?

VLSD was for 5-speeds (in the US only AE's). Traction control is for autos.

Canadian SE automatics came with VLSD from 97 to 2001 (not too sure about the 95-96)

The 2000 I30t Touring Sedan receives all the luxurious treatment of the I30, but is tuned for more precise handling. Its Touring suspension ...A viscous limited-slip differential is added to provide better grip when accelerating out of tight corners. I30t also comes standard with High Intensity Discharge Xenon low-beam headlights offer improved visibility on dark roads.
and they only offered Auto 4 spds

When were we discussing I30's in this at all? If you know that much, why not pose your question in an I30 forum?

Or just ask a dealer in your area?

Short end of the story is if you can't find anyone local, how far and to what cost are you willing to go to do this 'swap'?

jjs, drop it - we're not discussing I30's here. They make VLSD's for Autos, just not US-Spec Maximas.

The point is, the VLSD auto has been swapped into Max's or has come as a standard feature for some on THIS particular forum (ie. myself). No point in taking Maxima related matter into the I30 forum, is there?

Ask a dealer? When was the last time you went to your dealer to ask a technical question and they actually knew the right answer? Doesn't happen much.

One of my points is that it is NOT a US spec item. The guy lives in FLORIDA. Where is he going to get a CA spec tranny but from a dealer (here or north of the border)? If it is in the shop now, either they can get it or not. I don't see where this has been asked of the current shop. Even if he does find one, how many shops (dealer or otherwise) do you think will have experience in this?

I fail to see how it's not a US spec item if it bolts on directly to the same VQ30 engine in the same chassis - on the I30. There are NO powertrain differences there, bud. He just needs to order the drive axles.

Any good mechanic can install a drive axle.

Any shop with the tools can also install a transmission.

There's nothing complicated to it - and the transmission can be shipped from www.car-parts.com (search under Canada), or from me ironically once I yank mine out.

Easy as apple pie - there is nothing to it at all for someone who's taken a tranny out before.
