Service Engine Soon light

I only have 7416 miles on my 2003 Maxima GLE, and, last night, the "service engine soon" light came on. I have to bring it in on Thursday, but have done some research on the Internet, and find that this seems to be a common annoyance with these cars. I made sure the fuel cap was tightened, but it didn't help. Will be bringing it in to make sure everything is okay, but am pretty annoyed about this.

I have the same problem and was wondering whether it is a faulty sensor issue? How did you make out at the dealership when you brought it in? Does anyone else have some information on this problem?

Sorry to hear but you'd better get used to it. The SES light is a Maxima never ending occurance. You're lucky it's under warranty so the dealer should take care of it. After 3/36 if you don't have an Autozone near you (who will read the code for free or cheap) you'll need to invest $129 in your own code reader. (The code is in the onboard computer that tells why the light went on). My dealer charges $105 just to read the code. Hopefully, the coil problems are gone with the newer Maximas (2002-2003). My guess would be an oxygen sensor tripped the SES and they'll reprogram the computer not to do it anymore.
