Racing Straight Pipe???

I was wondering if anyone has purchased the racing straight pipe from custommaxima.com. I want to know how much louder your car is and the type of sound you get from it. Any comments are appreciated. I have a cattman exhaust and stillen intake. I know its illegal but i will put the stock cat back on for emissions.
Thanks Anthony

you won't see any gains out of N/A. Besides, you can get one for ~$30 from testpipes.com or warpspeed

I had one made for me at the local muffler shop for 40 bucks. It doesn't make it any louder, it just drones a little bit more.

Someone else on the org said that it made him more power, but he put it on a t the same time he put on a bunch of other mods... so you don't really know. He said it was loader, but like I said, other mods with it. One thing he said that can be attributed directly to the lack of a cat, it made the exhaust gasses stink, the cat doesn't clean the gasses, so they're not clean... a problem especially when the car is first started up.

So when I get the new Stillen Headers that get rid of the pre cats my exhaust is going to smell like dookie if you're driving behind me?

no, it'll smell like noxious chemicals... please let me know if the headers make any difference over a y-pipe. I've heard that the legnth of the manifold is so short, as are the headers, that no real gain is realized. But, I'm waiting for someone to try it... if it works, the money's in the bank. That is if Stealin ever starts selling them.

Well Stillens product is supposed to get rid of the pre cats, unlike the y-pipe so I guesing it would be better than the y-pipe alone.

What type of HP gain does one get from Headers? And what is the price for those on a 2k3?

I.ve heard claims like 15hp and more, but the only company I know to be actually making them isn't using dyno comparisons to R&D them. The cost I've heard will be between 350 and 600, but instalation will be much more expencive at a performance shop, 'cause it will take much longer. Stealin may be R&Ding some, but they seem very sketchy about this.

In addition to that...a ticket of not having a cat is around 2800 in bay area.

you interested in getting one?

I might sell it because I really dont want to risk it...if they want to dig futher than jus the test pipe and open up my hood, I think it will be more than 2800. someone suggested to weld a heat shield onto the test pipe to make it look like cat.

let me think again.....but I am 70% sure that I want to sell it.

thx

The difference between the custommaxima pipe and having someone else make one is the custommaxima one has a resonator built in. I have one with my stock exhaust and everything sounds the same. It did smell a little stink for the first few miles but went away later.

I THINK the resonator may make a little difference in terms of sound especially if you have an aftermarket exhaust.
