Hi everyone,

Just wanted to say very great site. Anyways my girlfriends just financed a 2000 Infinite I30. Very very nice car, nice bose speaker system, black leather, absolutley gorgoues.

Anyways I have a few questions.

Performance wise, is an automatic 2000 I30 have the same accelration as a 2000 Maxima? I know they share the same engine, but I figured the I30 would weigh alot more. I also hear the an automatic maxima 2000 can go 0-60 in 6.7? does that apply to the I30 as well?

The reasoning behind this, as beeing a guy you all know that you dont want your girlfriend to have a faster car then you. I know its real sweet, but I wanna know in street racing, (light to light) not highway(id get smoked) If I can hold up and or beat the I30.

What I drive is a 1996 Mustang 3.8 V6 5-Speed, my mods to the car include 3.73 gears, dual exhaust, full intake, underdrive pullies, aluminum driveshaft, racing clutch, short shifter, MSD Ignition.

Anyways Stock numbers on my mustang are:

150HP @ 215 ft/tq 3005lbs (5-speed)
after mods:
180HP @ 240 ft/tq

Stock numbers on the I30 are:

227hp @ 217ft/tq 3500lbs

Because im lighter, with more torque and a stickshift is there a chance I can keep up with an I30? you guys let me know. Not sure if the I30 is the same as the Maxima.

And if anyone knows what does an automatic !30 run 0-60 and quartermile?

If this was a highway race id loose forsure, the highend on the I30 is insane, im talking 0-60 racing here. Let me know your opinions guys.

Im not starting a flame, I love the Maxima and the I30, marvelous cars, just wondering if my girlfriend has a faster car off the line then me.

thanks.

Unless you powershift the hell out of the autotranny, a realistic number would be in the 8 sec range. The number you've posted is probably for the VQ3.5 engine not the VQ3.0.

regarless of the "real numbers" I would imagine an I30 would take a 3.8L Mustang 5 speed from stop light to stop light, and on the highway.

no offense, but leave it to a Ford guy to like the Bose System...I guess it's all perspective. If you're used to driving a Geo Metro, then a Nissan Sentra is one big, roomy powerful sedan!

I had a buddy from work that drives a 2001 Mustang GT drive my old 1998 Maxima (RIP) he commented on how nice and thick the leather was compared to the leatehr in his Mustang...but of course he didn't care for the power...as he had a 260bhp GT and a 5 speed, my 1998 Maxima was an autotragic.

have your girlfriend join the org, maybe you'll trade in your Mustang for a Maxima eventually!

Stock it would be a close race, but with your mods you should definately be faster light to light. The further the race goes the more advantage she has.

i drive a 2k auto max. on paper, 222hp. the i30 for the same year is 227.

1996mustang. i don't know mustangs, but i've raced my friend's 97 stick shift v6. don't know if it changed that year, but i had a length and a half on him while passing 60mph.

did this on a freeway onramp with two lanes. the ramp angled slightly downhill but perfectly straight. with the lights on both sides, we had a fair start. top end i don't know, cuz we only took it to highway speeds.

how heavy is the max tho? is it lighter than the 3.5 VQ (which would help) or the same? i mean cuz the 3.5 VQ also has more features which interchanges with more weight but how much?

A 2000 i30 with the sport package is one very good looking car, no doubt about that. But it's definatally no speed demon. The 2k-2k1 Auto Maxima's do 0-60 in 7.8 without "power shifting". The i30 is heavier, so i'd say it gets to 60 in around 8 seconds. As far as I know, the 94-98 Mustang V6 5spd's get to 60 in around 8.9 seconds stock. So with your mods, it would be close. You'd probubly take her off the line if you know how to drive. Overall I think it would be a very close one.

i should add that the stang i raced was bone stock.

the crazy thing is that once you pop the hood on the v6, there's actually room to crawl into the engine bay. there's an obscene amount of unused space in there. perfect candidate for a turbo or s/c.

The Mustang would get oWn3d, and a V6 Stang isn't that much lighter, prolly 3100# vs 3200#. Sorry, but save your pride and don't race her.

yeah. as in my old t-bird i was amazed when i looked under the hood. its cuz it was made for a nice 4.6 v8 that goes into the gt's and some of the old tbirds.

I doubt it. Auto i30's arent fast. With all the mods he has, it will be a good race. V6 mustangs are slow, but he's at least a 5spd with some nice mods facing a stock auto i30. With his 3.73 gears, he will definatally have more bark off the line. Auto Maxima's/i30's have pretty weak off the line power IMO. They come with something like 2.3x gearing.

I think it would be an interesting race. The I30 is a whale if it really weighs in at 3500 pounds, I honestly never knew they were so heavy. the 2k-2k1 maxima's/I30s in auto are pretty much the slowest since the non SE 3rd gens so.. IMO you'll probably win.
