You just unscrew your original m/t **** off *** if you were twisting off a cap.. It's gonna be really tight so you might need to wrap like a wrench in a towel to grip it and just turn counter-clockwise.

is it the same with regular 2k m/t ****? I tried hard, but was afraid to twist the shifter mechanism

Yeah, thats what I thought I had to do, but I couldn't find a pipe wrench in my garage last night. I'll go try it.

Thanks guys

Hehe...only your hands.

Make sure any "wrench" you use is heavily wrapped or you risk damaging it.

I used one of those vise grip wrenches to unscrew the ****. Just like others said, make sure you wrap the **** with a towel or you will damage it. I put a few scrathes on mine.

I tried the vise grip with a towel over the **** and still scratched the hell out of it. So I said since the **** is pretty much ruined, I'll try the vise grips without the towel... Still can't get the damn thing off!!! Maybe I'll stop by Sears...

Don't waste your time. Cut it off and get a new ****. I couldn't get mine off with a strap wrench either.

I did end up starting to cut it off. I cut off the leather cover, but now there's the hard rubber under it that I've been hacking away at with a utility knife. And then I cut my hand with the damn thing! It finally stopped bleeding.
When you cut it off, how did you do it? Hack saw?

HELP!!

IIRC, there are two layers of rubber. Once you get through that, there is a little plastic "cap" that's screwed on to the gear stick. That's not hard to screw off. So, all I can say is keep cutting . It took me about 45 minutes to get it off and I used a flathead screwdriver. BTW, Max_Gator was there laughing his a$$ off at me.

drill.

drill a small hole in the center of the **** straight down. try to line it up with the center of where the metal shaft should be. it should fly thru the soft stuff. when you hit resistance, that's the shaft. stop. then just squirt some liquid wrench down there.

go watch the college tourney for a bit and come back to finish it off.

No, I was laughing WITH you not AT you.

Of course, you didn't bother to tell them that you decided to attempt to take off the **** at the track! But they were making us wait, and you did have your STS, and I did tell you I'd help . . . lol.

done

Well I finally got it off. I cut through the rubber down to the plastic cap, and used vise grips to unscrew that. My AE **** is on and I'm happy, but my left hand is messed up. I have a deep cut and I think I have carpal tunnel in that wrist from waxing the car last week. It doesn't feel right.

Maybe you should get a tetanus shot if you haven't got one in 5 yrs. or more just to be on the safe side.

The problem is that the stock **** is glued on. If you use a little shock with the strap wrench it will snap the glue, then unscrewing is easy.

In the future, use a heat gun and a pair of vise grips to remove the ****. There is little chance in removing the **** without damaging it, however.

no offense but ur a dumbass! i wouldnt even dare using a saw in my car! or anything that can cause that much damage. try one of sharp knives or use a butcher knife. it'll take time but less chance of collateral damage (that means u might not get hurt!)

This is the correct anwser. I had this same problem and with the use of a $5 strap wrench it came off with little resistance. I then returned the strap wrench and got my $5 back.

I'm sure you can use a blowtorch without any complications.
