Transmission Oil Change

When changing the transmission oil, is there anything else required to do other than poring out the bad oil and putting in the new????

On a manual transmission:

1) make sure you are on LEVEL ground
2) pop out the the scoop part of the intake (not required...just makes filling easier)
3) drain, make sure to pop open the fill bolt as well during drain (wait like doing an engine oil change)
4) cap drain plug and start filling. I bought a fill device for like 10 bucks that makes it easier. Tube with resevoir that I can turn off and on.
5) fill until it starts to "leak" out of fill hole. for 2K-2K1 about 4.5 quarts. I believe a 2K2+ is less than 3 full quarts.

No filter, just drain and fill.

Disregard my comments!

I have no idea how a auto works or how to maintain it!

Actually, the instructions I gave were for a manual. Check this link for some basic auto stuff...

And remember to always loosen the fill bolt before you remove the drain bolt (just in case).

It take 12 quarts but if you just drain it probaly 7 quarts. About half get trapped behind the torque converter.

At 32k miles, I did the Trans Tech flush with my local import specialist. I used 14 quarts of Amsoil ATF in the process. Amsoil ATF is supposed to last up to 3 times longer than conventional ATF. The transmission shifts much more smoothly.

Spend the $$$ for the flush, its worth it.

umm, my tranny is the same as yours: RE4F04B/A (A is 00-01 max, B is 02+)

my automatic tranny took ~6 quarts. The filter is not an item that requires periodic maintenance. The ESM says Approx 7 qts, i believe.

under the car on the driver side. you'll see a big bolt (17mm i think it is) at the back of a black pan looking thing

remember, passenger side is the engine oil drain plug, driver's side is the auto tranny drain plug
