Extended Warranty

I recently purchased a used 2003 Se 6spd with 1300 miles. It has the original warranty but I need some recommendations on extended warranty. Right now I have a quote from AAA for 1250 for 7yr or 100,000 and from WarrantyDirect for 7 yr or 100,000 for $1150 with $0 deductible or $950 for $100. Does this sound like a good price? Should I bother with extended warranty? I'm looking to keep the car for at least 5+ years. Any other warranty companys or pricing is greatly appreciated.

sounds like a good price...

I paid $1500 for mine from Nissan for Silver Preferred Plus
6 years/75,000 I think with $50 deductible.

I only purchased it through Nissan because it was like an extra $10 a month on the note and it lowered my initial interest rate by a point or so

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll just have to do my homework and make sure I don't get taken.

here's a thought though...you can buy a warranty at any time...at any nissan dealer, or vendor.

So, you may want to wait until the factory warranty has expired (or atleast gets closer to expiring). You never know...car could be totaled, you could get tired of it, etc.

I don't know if that would change the price though.

Also...keep in mind that warranties ARE negotiable. When we went through the Xterra fiasco they gave us a 100 k warranty at cost (the one that is bumper to bumper and has no deductible) and it was $500. The finance guy said he usually trys to sell them for atleast $1,500.

...just some food for thought...

good call..yes warranties are available for purchase at anytime BEFORE the original 3/36,000 expires though.

As long as you purchase an extended before the initial one expires, you'll be alright.

Maybe consider purchasing one through your insurance co???? not sure if they sell them. I know AAA offers great value in their plans

Good Luck!

As far as I've been told. The older the car and the more miles, the more money it will cost. I definitely agree with waiting to the original warranty runs out. You never know what will happen to the car from now til say 5 years later.

Try warrantybynet.com

I've had them on two cars ... never had a problem or an argument, and they paid 5700 for repairs. They're OK in my book.

Re: Extended Warranty

I don't know details but I've read that Warranty Gold is also good for extended warranties.

I have also been receiving emails from Peoplefirst.com about getting an extended warranty.

I would recommend getting a bunch of price quotes and work them against each other to get the best price.

I got my Maxima basically the same, and I got a 100K/84 Mo, 50$ deductable, Bumper2Bumper (Maxi Gold, I think its call) for 890$.

Dealerships make a profit off of the contracts, just like everything else. I think the list cost is 749 (for mine), and there is a 75$ processing fee (though that may be BS).

I'd bascially go into my dealer, offer them 100bux over cost and they'll most likely take it. They'll even show you the book with the costs. They'll make a bit of $$ and you'll get what you need.

I've done a lot of homework on this.

Extended Warranty

I asked this same question about a month ago. Lots of people said not to bother, but there is virtually nothing you can fixed on a car for lestt that $300, so $1000 or so for a 100k warranty may not be a bad deal. Just make sure you check on how stable the company is and what their record is in Better Business Online. Companies like WarrantByNet and WarrantyGold have been around a while, so even though they may be a little more money, that are probably worth it. You will get what you pay for.

Go with the extended warranty.
I paid $1357 for 6yr / 100,000 miles with $50 deductible from Nissan
The price varies on if the car is new or used & mileage. If the car was never titled, it will be considered new regardless of miles.
The old the car gets, the higher the extended warranty.
If you sell or total the car you get the money back assuming you have not made a claim. If you have made a claim you will get a percentage back.

One BIG advantage is car rental.
Nissan does not cover rental but the extended warranty does.
I have had some clutch issues. (Finally fixed after 6 times)
I never had to pay a penny for rentals. I have probably already saved at least $300.

I have 45K on my car and they are going to put a new sun-roof motor in it! (yeah, that old 2-inch creep problem)

There is no way that you are ever going to make money on the nickle and dime stuff. Where it pays is when an AC condenser, a sunroof motor, a tranny....

It's all a question of insurance, that is all that the waranty is.

But the one thing that you will have to do is find a good dealer. We all know what Nissan service is like. If you go to a hard-baller, screwer if you will, then your waranty is worthless.

To boot, even if you sell the car the waranty is transferable so you don't loose all all.

Negotiate!

In 2001, I bought a Gold Preferred plan when I bought my car.

$50 deductible, 6 year, 100K miles. Cost was $1,125, and they threw in a coupon book that essentially gives me 25 oil changes at $8 each, plus other miscellaneous coupons like 10 or 15% off tune-ups, parts, brakes, etc.

I think the cost of the plan at the time was something like $1000.

So the bottom line is, if you buy it from Nissan, you can negotiate the price.

(I should add, that I've never lost money on a policy like this. Something major probably *will* break in 100K miles. Of course, this assumes you're going to keep the beast for 100K miles...)

Ext Warranty

Do yourself a favor. If you are going to get an extended warranty, buy a Nissan one, don't even bother with any of the others. It is priced a LITTLE more, but everything except maintenance items are covered. For example: an extended warranty some years ago on a previous Ford I had only covered the tie rod ends that needed replacing at 50k if it could be should they "failed due to a manufacturing defect"(per the exact wording in the contract). They did not replace them if they just wore out prematurely. A/C compressor, same thing.

Ext warranty on my 2000 Max was $975 for the 6 year/75k mile, $50 deductible. Look at it as a piece of mind policy.

I have had nothing but good luck with Warranty Direct. You can negotiate the price a bit lower with them. they lost there shirts on my 1996 Chysler Town And Country LXI. They went for two tranys, ac condensor and compressor. Electic seat and window motors AND A WHOLE LOT MORE. What a piece of crap my Chysler was. They pay by credit card directly to the repair shop and the shop doesnt have much of a hassle getting paid. Know reduced rates to dealer repair shops. If there fee is $75.00 an hour that what they get paid. E mail privately if you want more specifics. cost on Chysler 950 7yr/100k 0 deduct 12 months no interest to pay.
I have a BS United Auto Group warranty on my 2000 max. I purchased the car used so it only cost 30 bucks to transfere. i would stick with Warranty Direct.
ALLSO WAIT TILL YOUR CAR GETS CLOSE TO THE 36K MARK THE WARRANTY PRICE IS THE SAME WEATHER 5K 0R 32K AS LONG AS WHEN YOU BUY THE WARRANTY WHILE YOUR MAX IS UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY. god forbid you total your car at 25k you would be out the price of the warranty

Thanks to everyone for the responses. I actually bought the car from a private seller and not a Nissan dealer. Anyhow I'm going to call Nissan and see what kind of prices I get for their warranty. Like I said before, gotta do my homework and thanks to the internet, I'll continue to shop til I get a good reputable company for the right price.
