tire help for SE
My friend just blew out one of his tires on his SE. The stock size is 225/50/17, but the tire choice is pretty limited. besides speedometer calculations being off, would there be any other disadvantage of running something like a 245/45/17 size? how about a 225/55/17 tire? i'd rather have dunlop sp5000s than any of the tires listed for the 225/50/17 size. the car is just a daily driver, so as long as nothing rubs it's all ok.
i looked at the size of the calipers/rotors and I'm sure there's also a 16" size that will fit my car, I might even just go for that since the tires are cheaper. Any recommendations? Anyone selling their 16" wheels?

If you e-mail me, I think I have a photo or two here at the office I can send over.
just sent you an email. i would think it would be fine. looks like enough clearance and i would really like ot get the 225/55/17 dunlop sp5000s because i need an all-season tire, so no kumho 712, prefer to stay away from falken, etc

I just looked at the FAQ and it didn't answer a question that I have. Will 215/50 R17 tires fit on the '03 Max SE rims? If they do, are there any benefits or downsides? The reason I ask is because Continental Conti Extreme Contact tires come in this size and are around $80 per tire. They are far cheaper than anything else I have found on the net, have an excellent wear rating and the user reviews have been excellent.
had the same happen on to my oem tires. as an additional note, you should replace two tires and have them paired up front and rear. put the two new tires up front and pick the two old tires in the best condition and move them to the rear.
