Sticks coming out of park

My wife's car a 2k GLE auto with 27,000 miles on it. twice she has had problems getting the gear shift out of park and into reverse. Last night after work she got into the car, started it, foot on brake, pushed in the release button but the shifter would not come out of park. It took about two minutes of work and finally it went into reverse. Once in reverse no other problems getting to the other gears. The car is parked on level ground at work. She said this happened one other time about two months ago but she failed to tell me about it. I'm taking the car to the dealer next Monday but I have a feeling if they can't duplicate the problem they are going to say there is no problem. I haven't noticed the problem. I drive the car about 40% of the time. Anyone ever have this happen or have any idea what to look for. thanks for any help

When parking the car, keep your foot on the brake, pull the e-brake, with your foot still on the brake - put the car into neutral, release your foot from the brake (allowing the e-brake to catch the car) shift into park (you may need to put your foot back onto the brake first, I dont in my 4th gen but I think its different for 5th gens). This will take all the strain off the pin in your transmission and allow a smooth transition from park. I was also having similar problems to what you described before I started doing this every time I parked my car.

similar to what ch13f does, I just pull into a spot, keep my foot on the brake, then put the e-brake up, and then put the car into park. This usually prevents the sticking of the park thing. My car does that too - must be a Nissan thing...

Bent parking pin. --> Parking on large hills without e-brake.
--> Not allowing car to come to a complete stop
before putting in park. You'd be suprised!

Binding linkage.

Lets hope the shift linkage is just binding somewhere, or whatever that button is supposed to release is binding.

Using the e-brake in an auto before putting in park is way to much hassle and shouldn't have to be done...
