Dead Maxima, please help
Dead Maxima, please help
I was driving in my neighborhood today and break torqued, floored my car, and at about 35 mph i heard a loud thunk, the steering wheel and brake tightened, the ses light went on, and my car died. I drive a 2001 maxima gxe auto, and i had recently just put on a place racing cold air intake, and today was the first day it was actually cold outside since i had gotten it (i live in houston). The engine starts perfectly, nothing is blown from what i can tell, but it dies after about 5 seconds. Could this be caused by the intake? And if u have any suggestions on what could have caused it or what the problem may be i'd greatly appreciate it.

Make sure the filter didnt loosen up. I have a stillen fliter and it didnt line up right at first. It would loosen up and pull out. There are a bunch of sensors before the throtle body and it dies when air comes straight in wtthout a filter. Just tighten up the clamp. I hope it isnt a stillen cause if it is you may have to do more then just tighten it. I had to drill a new hole in the frame for it to stay on.
Unplug the connector on the MAF. Then see if the car will start and stay running. The car won't allow you to go above 2400 RPMs, but it should stay started.
Note: It make take 2 or 3 starts after unpluggin the MAF before the car will stay running, but it's not more than 2 or 3.

If after you connect the MAF, you may need to let the car run for about 5 mins or so. Then drive (the best you can) to a local AutoZone store. Have the SES light reset. Then start the car up. If the SES light comes back on, have them pull the code. Most likely it will be a MAF failure.
You'll have to revert back to stock and visit the dealer for a new MAF if you are still under warranty.
If you're not under warranty, you can buy a new MAF from Courtesy Nissan. They've got the part 22680-AD210 and tell them you are from the .org. It should be around $60-70 plus shipping.
As for the long term fix... don't rev the car when you first install the intake. The ECU takes time (500 miles or so) to adjust to the changing in air/fuel mixtures. During that period, be gentle to the car. If you search by my name and "reset" in the 5th gen forum, then you can find out how to reset the ECU's emissions information, which also contains the air/fuel mixture information.
