Quick Q on Amsoil for 5spd

Hi all,

What Amsoil (75W-90 or 80W-90) for a 5spd transmission? I'm in the midwest.

Thanks!

Look to see what the owners/service manual says is the proper weight. If both are within specs, I would say use the lighter of the two. Would work better in the winter and since Amsoil has such superior film strength vs normal stuff, it will be no sweat for protection in the summer. You could run both no problem though.

Ahh...manual only suggest GL-4 75W-90 oil. I guess I should have read first, huh?

Thanks!

Are you talking about tranny fluid? I believe Amsoil has only 1 kind of tranny oil.

Any of Amsoil's gear lubes (except the xW=140 stuff) is suitable for use in the Maxima. The Series 2000 75W-90 offers the best protection period. Any of the 75W-90's will give you better cold weather shifting and better fuel economy.

The 4th gen 5 speeds were specced for 80W-90 and the 5th gen 5 speeds called for 75W-90. Either one can be used in both models.

I have a manual transmission, so I need gear lube vs. transmission fluid for a conventional automatic transmission. I just didn't know what weight to get...but the owners manual calls for 75W-90 GL4 oil.

I just ordered some 75W-90...so I'll be changing the oil next weekend. Wish me luck...

Actually....how the heck do I check the transmission oil level? I can't seem to find the dip stick for it...if there is one...

Thanks!

There isn't a dipstick. With the car level, open the fill plug. When fluid just dribbles out or is at the bottom of the hole, the fluid level is perfect. The key thing is the cae must be level.
