Engine knock is a direct result of lesser grade octane. Using mid-grade octane in the engine will not hurt it, if you use an additive every so often.

the manual clearly states that octane boosters will ruin the engine

Will this be harmful to my engine???
as far as using less than 93 octane gas, i recently tried Exxon 89 octane gas during the winter, and for some odd reason the engine felt more responsive and had the same or similar fuel economy than 93 octane gas.
but now it's getting warmer i think i'll use 93 octane from mainly Texaco.

"anything less" will not "ruin your engine" unless you have knock! Do you have boost? Do you run it hard very often? If you use anything above 91 there's a 95% chance you're wasting your money.

This is not true....

I work for GE Fleet. We lease about a hundred thousand cars a year. We have paid to have studies done about preimum fuel usage. Even in vehicles like our maxes that claim to need the 92 octane really dont. You just need enough octane so that it doesnt knock. Most of the time 87 will do that. Dont fall into the myth.
