Are y-pipes legal???

Stillen say that theirs is not for the street, so I guest that means that the car can't pass emissions. What do ya'll think I should do. Also, what do ya'll cattman y-pipes???

Thanks!!!!!

they arent technically legal for use on the street. however, i dont know anyone here that did not pass smog test even in CA due to the y pipe. i passed in nc with no problem with my cattman. it has been said to make sure the car is warmed up well before you take it in but most people dont live beside an inspection station.

No. The fact that you may be able to pass a smog test with Y-pipe installed has nothing to do with its legality.

aftermarket parts cant void anytime type of warranty unless it causes something to fail that you want replaced under warranty. lets say you put a on y pipe and the 02 sensor in the exhaust goes bad. most dealers wont replace the sensor and could void the exhaust warranty, if its covered in warranty you got such as gold or silver. i have a 100k gold warranty and ive had plenty of things replaced under warranty but none that failed as a result of mods.

Cool, and I just had that replace. If I put on the y-pipe, will I have more of a sleeper kind sound or something like a V8 sound.

Technically sloppymax is correct. In reality, however, your dealer can void anything they want to that's related to a mod and then you have to decide whether it's worth your time and resources to fight them. On the other hand, if you've got a great relationship with your dealer, they'll often turn a blind eye even if a part fails that is in direct proximity to the mod. For example, I recently had an O2 sensor replaced under warranty that resides in my Y-pipe. And I have an aftermarket Y-pipe.

You live in New York. You should therefore purchase a stainless steel Y-pipe. Of your two choices, only Cattman manufactures a stainless steel Y-pipe. You should therefore purchase a Cattman Y-pipe.

End of report.
