Wheel Hop!
Wheel Hop!
I HAVENT FOUND ANYTHING GOOD ABOUT REDUCING WHEEL HOP ON THE SEARCH PAGES, SOMETIMES I THINK MY DASHBOARD IS GONNA FALL OUT. IS THIS A 3.5 6 SPEED THING OR DO OTHER MAXES DO THIS? SUGGESTIONS ? OR DO I JUST HAVE TO LIVE W/ THIS. SOMEBODY SAID POLYURETHANE BUSHINGS COULD HELP, ARE THEY EVEN MADE FOR MY 02? ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APRECIATED. OH YEAH, THE WHEEL HOP IS THE SAME W/ STOCK BRIDGSTONES OR 18" NITTO 555'S. DONT THINK TIRES WILL HELP.
The wheel hop problem has nothing to do with your maxima. It is the nature of front wheel drive. I hate front wheel drive for this reason. This is my forth front wheeled drive vehicle and every on did this. This cars include 1992 Olds Achieva with a Super high output Quad four engine with manual 5 speed, 1995 Pontiac GTP (only came in auto), 1998 Nissan Maxima (auto), and now my 2002 Nissan Maxima 6 speed. I have just learned to live with it, but I am going to consider the G35 for my next pruchase. Back to rear wheel drive.
Place Racing does make motor mounts for the 02 Maxima. This will help but will not eliminate the problem.
I feel your pain.

It's all about the geometry of the suspension. If a drive wheel(s) can torque the suspension, or twist it, the natural tendency is for the wheel to rebound up, so it hops. My chevelle had a four link rear axil (4.11 12 bolt posi no-less), and would shake the fillings out of my teeth when it hopped.
Back in the day, there was a huge aftermarket supply of hooper-stopper equipment for RWD, so it was a common problem for them too. Ladder bars, slapper bars, coil bags, hopper-stoppers, you name it.
The fix for my chevelle was to secure the axil so that it would not rotate as much (ladder bars). That harshly affected the ride tho.
It's easy to picture on a RWD. If you watched a rear axil torgue under load, you'd see the pumpkin actually twist up towards the car. That gives the wheels the urge to rebound up and hop as it went from traction to no-traction. It's a vicious cycle.
