Today i decided to floor my car. But the problem is that it is cold today... SO when i floored it i had 0 tractio... Tachomiter hitted the redline.... Then when i stopped i smelled something funny? What could i have done to my engine by doing this.

Probably some burning rubber kind of smell. Even if your traction is low and can't move the car, if parts of the tire ARE making contact, it will quickly heat up some of the tire surface and 'burn' from the friction.

Can you describe the smell?

 

Yeah probably tires... But did it hurt the engine. Because it was right in the red on the tahometer before it shifeted...:-(

 

Next time try not to floor your car when you have no traction.

worst way to hurt an engine, IMO is to run it w/o oil....

I guess you can hurt it over time if you burn the **** outta it....don't do neutral drops or u can kiss ur tranny bye bye

 

If you stopped as soon as you say you did, I would not worry about it. Just don't do it often and for prolonged periods of time and you should be just fine.

 

And what is natural drop....

throw the car into neutral, stomp on the gas and drop it into drive....do this a couple times and kiss the tranny bye bye

 

It is a neutral drop and basically is putting the car in park or drive (in an auto) bringing up the revs and then slamming it into gear.

As far as your car lasting...barring any other unforseen problems...based upon how you care about it now, I would say you will see many miles beyond 80K.

 

So how many miles can expect on my car. If i drive it hard. NO natural drops but hard. If change oil every 3k.

 

simple..DON'T DRIVE IT HARD and you can expect it to last you quite some time.....EXACTLY how many miles, no one on this board can answer you

 

What do you consider hard?

I know I have a heavy foot and row through the gears pretty hard on on-ramps, etc. but I still plan on a good 100K+, unless I trade her first.

 

Mine used to smell like that after I floored it as well. It only did it when it was new; after a few months the smell no longer appeared. I figured it was manufacturing residues burning off. Could also be tires, as some have said.

 

I floor it 1-3 times a day. But that's about how hard i drive.Ussually under 4000rpm

 

What do you guys consider "driving it hard"? Mine only has 100 miles on it so far, so I'm still in the break-in period and haven't had it over 3500 RPMS or 65 MPH yet. But I know I like to accelerate and once I get it broken in I'm sure I'll ride it a little harder. Is getting it up to 5,000-6,000 RPMS bad? I don't want to damage the engine.
