How dumb is this: "Shaved" doorlocks...?
Ok, when i first bought my max, i saw that all the door handles, 'cept one, were nice and door lock cylinder-less. Then the driver's side...
It looks like the rear door handle would fit in the front door handle slot. So, my mind was thinking:
Order a rear driver's side door handle.
Remove the front driver's side door handle.
Replace with rear driver's side door handle.
Instant "shaved" door lock cylinders. Yeah, you wouldn't be able to get into your car if the battery ever dies...but a small price to pay for a clean look.
Anyone shave their trunk lock cylinder? I want to do that too...the truck lock sticks up like a sore thumb.

Let's see...
You'll be locked out of your car if:
1) the battery in the key fob wears out; or
2) the battery in your car runs down (lights on, etc.); or
3) you blow a fuse (or a fuse, wire, etc. becomes loose); or
4) anything involving the remote entry or electric locking mechanism fails.
Rolls Royce used to include knock-out panels in all of their doors permitting the windows to be rolled up with a crank if the power failed. The Mazda I owned had a hand-crank fall-back for the sun roof. Car & Driver routinely prefers manual convertible tops to automatic ones, as ultimately the automatics fail, both costing $$$ and making the car impossible to drive in the rain.
IMHO, the mechanical lock is the ultimate fall-back.

It's not that it's that much better looking, it's just an added detail to the "clean" look. Much like how the SE's have colour-matched door handles (the part that actually lifts). Just an added detail. The part about the remotes failing due to battery life also popped up in my mind. Ultimately, i won't do it, but, was wondering if anyone else has tried it, conceived of it, etc...
