Homelink Transmitter question
Homelink Transmitter question
Hey,
I have to use a toll tag to open the entrance gate at my apartment, instead of a "clicker" transmitter. With the clicker, I was able to program the homelink receiver on the visor. With the toll tag, I can't program the the homelink receiver. Does anybody know if there is a way to program using the toll tag, or am I SOL. Thanks.

If I am not mistaken, toll tags are not really transmitters of data, they are more like data storage that is 'read' by outside mechanisms. That having been said, their is no 'transmitter signal' for Homelink to copy.

Re: Homelink Transmitter question
I doubt that it is possible, the only way I could see about trying is maybe take apart the toll tag and remove the battery and when you in the process of programming the homelink reconnect the battery and disconnect it like connecting the battery is pushing the button and see what happens.
But they are two different technologies and might be incompatable with each other.

I think I read somewhere that Homelink has some issues with some of the 'rolling code' openers. Does yours change code every time?

I don't know for sure, but I believe it does. Oh well, guess I'm SOL right?

He needs to look at the manual for the opener. There should be a button on it somewhere that needs to be pushed. between the homelink and opener manuals is all the info needed.

I asked a legitimate question and not everyone knows the 'rolling code' term so they may call it something else.
Chill bubba.

What's your problem? Not all 'modern' openers are rolling code units.

Yep - I have a rolling code opener too, and you have to use a different process. It involves using the "test" button (I think) on the garage door opener, and it took me something like five tries (doing the exact same thing) to get the Homelink programmed. Works like a charm now though.

), but now it is working fine. I tried to also program my house alarm in there but after calling the company there is another add on that I would have to buy so it really didn't seem worth it. I've gotta program my X-10 light modules in there so I can turn on the lights when I leave!

You have to program the homelink with your garage door opener. It is not going to work at first, but all you have to do now is find the "teach" button on the garage door opener motor(in some brands is called test button) and within 30 seconds press the homelink button again and it should work. In some cases you have to do this twice.

that works great, i got mine to work no prob. range isn't awesome, i had to plug an x10 receiver in the garage, but it's slick.

homelink remembers codes even when you pull the battery. last time i went home to my parents' house i could still open their garage door....

Does this prevent the sears remotes from working as well? I'd rather have the 2 remotes work, rather than the 1 homelink.
