Numbers for a BMW M3
#1
What are the HP, torque, and 1/4 times for a BMW M3? The one in question is most likely not a 2001 model, but something relatvely new.
I always see this guy at the Publix grocery store with an M3. I know it is a stick because I heard him as he drove off: he gave it a lazy shift, meaning it was not an automatic shift. Perhaps they only come with sticks.
Anyway, he just added some spoiler that looks like crap on the back. He's looked at me kind of funny the last two times I have seen him. He doesn't look even 21 years old.
He was passing directly in front of the store and a pedestrian darted out in front of him. He hit the brakes hard. I noticed there was no "bob" in the front of the car: the suspension. I long for my spring/strut/shock upgrade.

Any late model U.S. spec M3 has 240hp. They are faster than the Maxima (0-60 in the mid to high 5 sec range, low 14 sec 1/4 mile). Those figures are from Road and Track magazine's road test summary. The NEW M3 has 333hp and does 0-60 in about 5 secs flat and the 1/4 mile in the mid to high 13s. My advise to you... get a supercharger/turbocharger and hope for the best!

OK..back to the original question!
The new M3 was just tested by one of the car mags to run a 13.3@107 mph and 0-60 in 4.7.
Forget about it if you ever come across a new M3. It will blow us into the weeds. Bu, it also costs about $47k

1995 was the first E36 M3 for the US. It had the M50 engine with a 3.0L 240hp 224ft. engine. It only came with a stick. They also had an M3 lightweight. Some 200lbs lighter with stickers, special wheels, rear wing. Later on that year, they introduced the M3 luxury. In the middle of 1995, they offered an 5speed auto option. 1996 brought the M52 3.2L 240hp 236ft and new style rims. 1997 brought a new front grill that looked more Vshaped and the new sedan was offered. The coupe lost its Automatic Tranny option but the sedan still has that. 1998 they offered side airbags and later on in the year, the slow selling sedan was dropped.
#'s I got are from MotorTrend
1995 0-60 6.2seconds (stick)( But other magazines got times as low as 5.3seconds )
1995 0-69 6.4seconds (automatic)
1997 0-60 5.5 seconds (stick)
Unless your car is modified and has a stick, it will murder you.

You sure?

I beg to differ. A friend of mine has a 1997 M3 and I raced him in a 1998 Cobra 320hp. In the 1/4 I give it to the M3, roll on races were almost dead even. The M3 has very good traction and is why he got me from a standstill, the Cobra spins the wheels through 2nd gear at over 65mph (it's funny I would be getting onto the freeway in second HARD on the gas, sideways). If any turn was in the race, you will see the M3 for maybe a blink, then it's gone.
Both of those cars have sub 6 sec. 0-60 times, I would find it hard to believe a Maxima with intake and pipe in the sub 6 sec. Not to mention it takes alot of traction to get a front drive car to 0-60 less than 6 sec.
