I posted an idea on the .ORG about 4 weeks ago which was similar to this idea, but with one key change. What do you all think about using a spring loaded flap which would automatically open and close the new breather holes based upon intake vacuum? I haven't really had time to look for parts, but a low tension spring might do the trick. This is the same idea, in reverse, that Nissan is using in their variable muffler system . . . a flap opens in the muffler when there is a lot of back pressure in the exhaust.

The key benefit to have the flap system is that in the flap closed state, torque will be preserved and the car will be quiet at low rpm's. When you need the extra air (at higher rpm's) the flap would open and allow in extra air.

I also was thinking that some type of external cover (to prevent water ingress) might be a good idea too . . .

Unfortunately, I just don't have time to put these ideas to work, but may be one of you does?
That would be a good one to try. If this thing got too loud my plan was to install an electric manualy operated valve.

hey Sr20... i wanted to ask you a question hopefully you or anyone else can answer it. I have a 2k3 and i looked at the bottom of my stock intake and it doesnt have a hole... does that mean if i wanted to perform the home made CAI i would have to cut a hole? If you dont know what I am talking about here is the link:

http://www.vqpower.com/v2/modules.ph...howpage&pid=21

If anyone has dont it on their 2k3, please let me know... thanks.

The 2k3 has the same scoop under the hood as the 2K-2K1 which is what that setup is on. If it worked on the 2K-2K1 there is no reason as to why it should not work on a 2K2-2K3. Same scoop, same mod.

on the last pic is what i was asking about a hole at the bottom... And how big it would have to be.
Very interesting! Any idea where the other end of the new hose goes?

That elbow on all the 5gth gens is blocked off. None of them are cut to begin with, you have to do that yourself. How wide should it be, well my guess is as wide as that adapter is (how wide is the adapter ) But im sure that you have to cut the elbow yourself, just make sure you unplug the sensor be4 you remove the scoop and do the cut and you should have no problems at all. An extra hole wont hurt anything, even if you dont use the 3" tube to the slashguard the extra hole in the scoop will let in more air. That air will be hot air since its under the hood so its better to just do the whole tube thing.

Tru, But i think you can detach it anytime you want, so when you go to the track or know your gonna race someone... Otherwise, the vac tub itself should be no prob..

Ahh man thats funny. Looks like you have to get two other clips. Dont worry about the ones you have right now, just break em.
Put the screw driver under the round plastic part and hit the back to the screwdriver witha hammer if you cant break it any other way. Here is were you screwed up. When you turn the little screws in the clips, dont put any pressure on them at all. Just turn them and it will slowly pop out. Obviously too late for that so just break em off, or pry em out or something. Stupid nissan will probably charge out like .75 for each clip or something. Its no big deal but next time dont use any pressure while turning them.

haha... i didnt use any pressure until they started getting rounded off.... I was like oh ****!!! so i posted the message.. now i dont have to worry about it getting rounded off..... they are.... and will they break easily? Or do I have to hit them til they do? as much bad luck as I have had, i am scared that ill be hammering away and loose grip of the hammer and crack my headlight!

Ok then stay away from the hammer. They are plastic, they should break off. If not put the screwdriver under it and pry the damn thing off. Just get them off, who cars how.

The secret sauce manifold seems to like it just fine. My SAFC-II likes it better than the GAB.
