Is it bad to go over 85 MPH for a long period of time?

I haven't seen that one. Is that tactic legal anymore though? I could have sworn that Florida passed some new laws restricting some of that. I read that they passed a law that a cop has to have running lights on at night if they are on the side of the road, and that the person who get the speed on radar has to be the one to pull you over and ticket you, so no more speed traps. I'm not sure if that was right or not, but when did you see the air tactics used?

All that stuff is false. They still got speed traps. The plane thing is totally legal and still heavily used. The place they use it the most is on I75, right near gainesville. If you ever see those hatch marks going perpendicular to the direction of travel, be careful, they could be clocking you. The officer who clocks you does not have to be the one who tickets you. The difference is, when the guy writes you the ticket, he will be the coolest cop ever. Mostly cause he dont give a sh*t. Another thing, if a cop is on the roadside, they dont have to use their running lights. The reason most do is so that you can see them if you need to pull off there, Otherwise it could be a nasty accident. Im not trying to be a **** or anything, i just wanna help my fellow maxima driver avoid the ever popular roadside transaction.

Then there is a sign that clearly marks that the highway is air patrolled right when u get on I4 eastbound from I75. They have them in various spots along the turnpike as well. another thing they can use from the air are mile markers, call boxes, and lamp posts. on a 3 lane highway, the marks are in the center of each lane.

scotty, i just came back from tampa today actually and i saw those marks on the road e55 is talking about. now i know what they mean. i drove at an avg of 90 mph today all the way from tampa to gville and my max ran fine. had a lil fun with a v6 camaro on the way home too. oh and dont speed anywhere near orlando on the turnpike, i had a friend get nabbed twice there. id feel safer on 75 than on the turnpike. also, im 90% sure that pic in the thread is from the keys. never speed in the keys.
Ive had alot of experience w/ florida's highway system, and the easst highway to speed on is the Turnpike. The reason i'd take the turnpike anyday over any public highwayis that there is only one troop on the TPK (troop K) and they dont have that many cars. The worst place to speed on the TPK is in Palm Beach County. They concentrate the most there b/c of the road construction. The TPK also has alot less exits than 75, so no surprises from one hiding in an onramp. Also, there is alot less traffic to hold u up when at speed, so u save gas by not having to constantly slow down and speed up. Thing is the tolls. From Orlando to miami is like 12.40 total.
The hatch marks on I75 are in between the dotted lines
like this:

----- ----- -----
| | | | Appros 1/10 mile in between them

The turnpike between the toll plaza south of Orlando and Fort Pierce is the greatest road for speeding I've ever been on. If they could use SunPass toll plaza times against you in court I'd have been executed by now. 100mph and passed like I was standing stil by large groups of cars. I've gotten a ticket on 75, never on the Turnpike. Only been close once, and it was Orange County police not FHP. Wonder if they can actually stop you or not, since I was pretty obviously speeding...
I don't think you need a tranny cooler unless you are doing something far more stressful - like road racing.
I've never heard of any Maxima having a tranny heat problem from driving at high speeds on the highway. I suppose that could be a problem in the desert but certainly not in Florida.
I drive extended periods at high speeds on Florida highways and have never had a problem with either my 2k or 96 (and it has 155k miles).
And, if you pay attention in Florida you can avoid one hell of a lot of tickets.

They can only stop you and warn i think....
You can go fast even past fort pierce too. Just got work a lil bit for it.
I only mentioned the tranny cooler because some people have said their cars (tranny) went into safe mode after an hour or two at those speeds in hot regions.. That would be TX, the LA -> LV, and perhaps some places in FL. However, aside from safe mode and and having to pull over, shutdown, restart, drive alittle slower - I havent heard of any damage caused. That *is* what safe mode is for.
That pic is the turnpike.. yeah, speeding at all in the Keys is not recommended :/

Never had the tranny go into safe mode in FL. Even on a 100 degree day goin 100+ on the TPK. Also, looks like you met with by the book bob. He patrols the Keys and will rip u a new A$$hole if u arent following the letter of the law. Lemme know where u got ripped.
