Navigation System CDs
Just got an '03 Maxima with the Nav system. The car came with a couple of the navigation CDs but I'm looking for some additional areas. CDs direct from their vendor are a bit pricey at $120. However, I noticed that they sell a subscription for $180 which includes the first CD and and update about a year later.
That makes me think that there should be a few of these "outdated" CDs floating around. I wouln't mind picking up one of these for $30 or so. I've checked on e-bay and only found one listed and that's for MCA 6 which I already have. That was also one noted by seller to have been the wrong disk purchased from a dealer. Is there some kind of weird copywrite law or technical protection that would prevent reselling of the outdated disks?
I'm personally looking for MCA 8 and 9 but I'm thinking there should be a market out there for all the regions. The latest editions will have updated hotels, gas stations, etc. but for actual road information (and most of that other info) I can't imagine massive changes from one year to the next. Maybe an update every 5 or 6 years would be worth it but not every year.
So if you've got these "outdated" CDs sitting in your glove box or sock drawer, get 'em out there. E-bay's a great way to put these to use and maybe pay for a fill-up. I personally don't have any doubles for the area I'm in but I could imagine someone with an "new" and an "old" copy of his primary driving area, swapping his or her "old" copy with someone's "old" copy in another area.
