Hey,
Im new to the boards. I just bought a 2003 Maxima SE two weeks ago. I have a couple questions about the navigation systems. I currently have the basic CD player with manual climate controls. I know that the Navigation system comes equiped with the automatic climate control system in it. If I were to buy a navigation system for the Maxima would I be able to just plug and play or would it be too much work? Also is there a monthly fee to use the service? And if so how much? Thanks for any info!

Its not just plug and play. It would be a couple thousand investment to get OEM nissan navigation and auto climate controls. Much better off to use aftermarket. To get an idea what's out there, go to ebay, and do a search for navigation. There is no monthly fee for any gps navigation system.

For myself, I am almost done making a laptop mount for my max. Attaches to the 2 front bolts on the passenger seat, and curves around so another person can still sit/navigate in the passenger seat. Using MS Streets and Trips 2003.

Upgrading to the Nissan Navi is far from a plug and play.

That's a cool idea...

Just make a nice looking mount and you have a cool product at your fingertips.

How does it perform? Any glitches? Which Ipaq?

Don't know about how difficult it is to install the Nissan navigation system but I did come across someone selling a complete system on e-bay. I think I remember its going price at the time at around $700.

No subscription for the service but you have to have the CDs and they only come from one source, Nissan or their software vendor. There are a total 9 CDs for the US.They run $120 each unless you get a "subscription" at $180 which includes the CD and an update CD about a year later.

I'm never buying another car without a factory-installed Navi system. It's absolutely amazing. Gas, food, casinos, stadiums, hospitals, hotels, you name it, my Navi can find it for you & take you there. Someone said the ones the Accords use have voice recognition!?! Now that would be icing on the cake! Oh yeah, I'd also go with DVD, not cd-based in order to get
national coverage.
