"Maxima is a four door boat"

My co-worker is ****ing me off. He kept urghing me to race him. He vowed his 00 civic si would smoke me and i have a 03 maxima. He thinks that my maxima would do 20's in quarter miles. He also thinks my maxima is nothing but a 4 door boat. He said its all about the weight ? He claims my torque and hp means nothing once he's in 3rd gear. I think we will go a it for 1/8 mile for some money...what do u guys think? He has a 00 civic si, intake, catback, headers, vtech controller. My max is auto and stock w/ intake.

Thanks in advance

Well he's partially correct. Once you're both in 3rd gear it's pretty much over with.

Smoke him dude.

Unless you somehow slip your foot off the accellerator for a full 3 seconds while he's racing you, you will lay waste to him.

Stupid Honduhs.

Make us proud!

(Then make us more proud and go race something that's actually worth the wasted gas)

This guy knows SO much about cars, especially since he drives a Civic. Damn Honduh owners.

Maximas are 4 door boats..

OTHERWISE KNOWN AS:
Japanese Cadillac..

Case in point:
Cadillac has 300hp and is quick, but does it handle?

Maxima has 255hp-265hp and is quick as hell, but does it handle?

Actually i never drove a seville STS to the limits, i bet ya it handles better than a max.. Infact i don't known of any car that handles as bad as my maximas

My max handles quite awesome with some B&G Springs, Tokicos, Poly Bushings, FSTB, and RSB.

I think this race is about straight line, since they're arguing about hp anyway.

I don't think you'll have a problem with him. You should throw a couple mods on for reassurance

Except for Caterra's, I've NEVER seen or heard of caddy's racing at auto-x.
Maxes setup for handling are very tossable - for a boat

Screw that guy... compare engine bays (make sure he isn't blowing or anything)... and then SMOKE HIM.

Show him what an 03 Max is capable of!

Honda Civics are nothing but oversized MATCHBOX cars with wannabe engines. Maxima rules... and how dare you enter a Maxima Org and put down our beloved vehicle?

VTEC SUCKS!

I have owned both, the Civic Si just before the Maxima.

2000 Honda Civic Si
5-Speed Manual
Exhaust
Intake
Advanced Timing
Street Tires
Lightweight wheels
Adjustable Coilovers with Koni 5-ways
Comptech RSB and FSTB

2003 Nissan Maxima SE
Maxspeed Springs

In the twisties, the Civic is kind, but the Max feels pretty close (still isn't the same).

On the straight, the Max smokes the civic - not even close.

'Nuff said.

Having a car similar to the Maxima, I hear trolls on the forums say the same thing about my car. However,I wouldn't even waste gas on this idiot. Unless you bet some money, do not race him. On the other hand, if he bets money, might as well benefit financially from his stupidity because you WILL win. Also 1 more thing. Do not peel out when you are at the strip. Since it's 1/8 mile runway, I'm wondering if he's gonna try to get you out of the hole (maybe he's hoping your torque will cause massive wheelspin while he floors his torqueless machine and gets a jump. I've "beaten" many more powerful cars with my TLS just because they sat there smoking tire while my TCS helped me get a grip and beat them off the line. Also, although it won't be the case with a Civic SI, it's often hard to catch up to a car when it's already got a jump.

BTW... why is it that people think i am a troll... I just haven't been posting a lot...

Hey Vandy, I thought when type S's race they disable TCS. Doesnt that hurt your 60foot time when TCS kicks in?

THe first and last time i took my 2k2 to the track, i always lost off the line because i could never get a good launch on my car as result of wheel hop.. So i feathered the clutch at the start at around 2000RPM... I never experienced so much wheel hop before...

I had four runs and bested a 14.6 @ 97mph which is sad times for a 6 speed. My 60 foots were so rediculous.. But each and every case, the other guy always had a jump and i managed to pull ahead.

I never raced my 2k3 yet.. maybe sometime this summer when i have time, i will work on my launch because thats what is really killing..

you shouldnt have a problem, but everyone here thinks that your going to murder him. if hes a good driver be careful. i still think you will win, but dont spin or anything. with his mods, and a good driver he can see low 15's, which is 2k3 max territory with a bad launch.

dude, just put some money on it and race him. I can't imagine how you could lose to a civic anyways. just don't be like me and challenge your coworker and find out he has a 12 second camaro.

Well, if you have an SE it TURNs like a boat.

But like anything, what you see is not always what you get. Those ricer H and A jobs can quickly move up the power-to-weight scale.

If somebody says to me that my Maxima is a 4 door boat.. i would turn around and say... It is... thats why i bought it..

I love the stock suspension.. Nice and floaty, just the way i wanted it... Acceleration like a 2 door sports car... handling like a BUICK Century..

I love when i hit a bump in a corner and the rear end feels like its fidgeting out (Multi-beam suspension ROCKS!! )..

Can't wait to mod the suspension on this BIATCH..

Bingo! Once you make sure he's NA and not spraying ("wow, your car is THAT fast? Can you show me your engine?" ), tell this monkey that you'll race him for a couple of bills. Then like Vandy said, don't spin off the line, and make sure it's a long enough race that you can catch him if you do. Also make sure someone does a video so you can **** him off at will later

'Sup Vandy - how're things in TL-Land?

My SE doesn't turn like a boat... especially even more now with an RSB and FSTB... and my g/f's GXE doesn't turn like a boat either.

I did a google thing and here is what I found:

http://edmunds.nytimes.com/reviews/c...0/page009.html

Quarter-mile acceleration: 16.1 seconds.

Note that they have very experienced drivers who ran those tests. I think your friend can only do 16.5-17.0 seconds. You should win.

Those numbers for the SVT Focus seem a bit off... for what I've seen, those things are real sleepers... lightweight and pretty quick.

and the same experienced edmunds drivers got a 14.9 from a stick 2k2 maxima.

usually magaizine times are a bit low. a lot of factors, but mostly the fact that these cars aren't broken in (and whatever miles they have on there are press miles) is what is doing it.

Your coworker should be more concerned about dealing with the Spec V than any 2K2+ Maxmima.

However with his mods, he could probably run something like a 15-flat ET. But, if you launch decently (at least), its over for him.

Someone said VTEC sucks; take a look at this:
http://www.chinacommercer.com/vtech/...18/show360.htm

Seriously though, isn't VTEC simply variable cam timing? Isn't the VQ35DE in the 02/03 Maxima equipped with variable cam timing? And hasn't Nissan had variable cam timing as far back as 1992 with the VE30DE? VTEC doesn't suck...but it's nothing special.

Someone also said the Maxima handles like a Buick Century. Apparently that person has never driven a Buick Century, or I'd like to get some of the stuff he's smokin'. The Century is designed to be a soft-sprung car to take grandpa up to see the kids from Florida. The Maxima, on all trim levels, is markedly stiffer than any Buick...

In fact it's silly to compare a Nissan to almost any modern GM product.

Anyway...Smoke the Civic.

YEs that someone is me..

And yes i have driven buick century's, buick regals, gran prix, grand marquis, etc... I even drove an Impalla SS (which feels a lot tighter than my max)..

And no i am not smoking anything, considering my mom has a 99SE, and i personally owned two maximas (2k2) and now 2k3..

ANd I do know that my car handles like ****... Even compared to the two rental carsi had this year (2k3 Accord and 2k3 Altima)... The maxima is the biggest joke handler in any class... Besides i bought my car with the intentions of modifying the joke suspension... Ever take a corner hard and find the amount of body roll unacceptable? HOw bout taking a bump and nearly bottoming out the rear suspension. I have never driven a car that handles as bad as my maxima... But i do know that a slight modification to the suspension should cure these problems..
