For those who's had the P0420 Error Code ...
I have searched and read the updates and fixes of the error code. Essentially, have the ECU reprogrammed or updated with new software. There seems to be some confusion about warranty, however, so I want a couple of quick qustions:
Quick Facts:
2000 SE CA Spec Emission. Injen CAI. 61200 miles. SES went on at exactly 61K. Have not tried resetting ECU.
1. the car is now at 61.2k, will the ECU update be covered under any kind of warranty?
2. If so, I guess I have to take out the Injen CAI and put back the stock box, right?
3. if not, then it should matter I can/should just leave my injen on, right?
4. Do you have an avg cost if I have to pay for the ECU update. i know it varies by dealer.
5. Yes, Thanks...all... .
PS/I know some of you just drive around with it but my wife is getting paranoid and thinks she'll get stranded sooner or later.

I had the same code on my 2k at about 40k with an intake and y-pipe (not as a result of the mods, i had them for a long time beforehand). Never noticed any functional problem with my car. Reset it twice and it went away eventually. Done more exhaust work since then and still no cel problems. I dont know what it is about are ecu and exhaust that makes this happen over time, but it seems pretty common. Maybe its just something about how the exhaust/cats wear over time.
Try reseting it and if it wont go away try the dealer. Dont let them charge you more that 50 bucks and if you have a warrantee and an **** dealer, you actually might want to put the stock air box back (they will blame everything on the intake). Good luck with that.

We've been covering this failure under the Federal Emissions Warranty which is 8 years or 80k miles... Haven't had a single claim kicked back yet. If the dealership you go to tells you any different then contact Nissan Corporation at 1-800-Nissan-1 for assistance.

-------
2kGLE--> I always argue to put your car back to stock before going to the dealer but I figured I am at 61K now so prob dont matter much.
----------
for Naerok--> if you noticed performance deterioration from your car then have it checked.
NT2SHBBY...thanks
mines been on for almost a year! lol... haha... but anyways.. i thouhgt it was the o2, thats what i was told, but my mileage i'm getting is about 300 before the fuel light first comes on. So i dont know... sometimes it goes off, then it will come back on... how annoying, and then every passenger in the car always tells me, "hey your engine light is on" haha

Bad gas in Exxon's NJ
hmm!
I just took it in to the dealer without bothering to take off the injen. They pulled the code, fixed the car, and out the door I went. Didn't pay a cent, took less than two hours after dropping the car off.

I still currently have this problem also. I have tried resetting the ECU by unplugging the battery for about 24 hrs. The SES was gone, but the car still feels funny. A few days later the SES came back on again. Got the codes pulled at autozone and same thing. Called the dealer and they said that it could be a million things in the catlyer convertor system or something like that. I have been driving with the ses light for about month now and im starting to get worried. I also heard it could be a simple 02 senor, and just have to replace that.

I took my car in into the dealer and they said that I had a bad cat converter and need to replace it. It will take a couple of weeks to get the parts in. This is a big relief on my part since it's under warranty!!!!!
